Ok i'm sure this has done (though not as much as where should i put i tax disc) but i can really find what i'm looking for using the search. always had secure parking at home and work so never really considered a tracker but my work location is changing and my parking will no longer be secure, just an allocated space in a carpark, which i cant even fit a ground anchor to. so now i'm considering my options. i know a few of guys have a tracker so, which one to go for. The Road Angel BikeTrac claims to be the best, Tracker claim to work closer with police and Datatool Trakking are significantly cheaper for - they say- the same thing. So can you guys cut through the BS for me. I'm thinking i want one that is monitored and will alert me of any issues not just react after i have discovered my bike is gone and called them, Or is this a pain in the what's it with lots of false alarms, i have thought maybe this could be a pain when it comes to just wheeling the bike of the garage say to wash it etc. Any thoughts are welcome including don't bother. Financially i have spoken to my insurance and they have offered me a £70 discount on my premium if i fit one, so that almost takes care of the subscription fees. cheers guys n gals...
BikeTrac all the way. My friend recommended and I've had mine for 2 weeks. My Ducati specialist also doesn't recommend fitting anything other than BikeTrac.
I have a BikeTrac fitted, Duc insurance insisted one was fitted. It works as advertised, can be a little annoying at times (false alerts) and the GPS radio is a little weak. Ducati officially recommend BikeTrac and their monitoring room (SOC) is proactive, in that they call you if the bike is moved. You have to remember to turn the ignition on (3 wire install) or notify them via txt/web (2 wire install) if you move the bike, otherwise you'll get a movement alert. Because the GPS chipset is a little weak you can get alerts when the signal is lost and you haven't moved the bike. I got a false alert while on holiday, which pissed me off a little, but it's not really their fault.
Got an email yesterday re firmware update to prevent spurious alerts but I've yet to have one myself. It certainly alerted me correctly when the AA towed recovered it (with me accompanying it).
I also got that email. I get around one false alert about once a month, it's not a deal killer as it's tech limitation. They could spend a few more pence on a better GPS chipset.
Have a look here Ninja Tracking Systems | GPS Tracking | GPS Tracker You have to keep the credits topped up, but not to expensive if you get the report rate set correctly
BikeTrac was also recommended to me. The others put your bike in a rough area but BikeTrac will locate it's precise location. My question though, if your bike is nicked and trashed say within an hour, would you really want it back?
Bike Trac fitted to both the Mutley and the Diavel. Interesting to see the bread crumb trail when we were at Cartagena but cannot fault the system or service once they sorted out the local Orange signal strength when it merged with TMobile. My 3 year subscription is up for renewal soon and for me it's a no brainer. Andy
Thanks guys. It looks like i'll go with bike trac. it does seem to be the best. But...what's the score with moving the bike around, i.e wheeling out of the garage. I don't what the monitoring centre calling me all the time, n' I'm sure they don't want to call me either (could be wrong though - I am great). Can you set it to go off after say 30 seconds of movement or does have to be immediate?
If you manhandle the bike the movement sensor will trigger without the ignition on. If however you treat it like it's fragile I've not had an issue. Andy.
You've got the option of either Movement triggered or Geo Fence triggered alerts. The latter you can draw the fence on a map so as long as it doesn't leave that area then no alert will be generated.
I was advised to ignore the geofence option and following our experience with the Diavel when it went to Cartagena with Focussed Events, I would not use it as the bike appeared to stay in West Sussex when the bike was in reality travelling through France and Spain - thankfully because it was there to meet us for the weekend. Bike Trac is not without it's niggles but I will not hesitate to recommend it. Andy
What Biot says, under no circumstance advertise that you have one either by stickers or telling people generally who you don't know, they can be removed in seconds, they are not a deterrent type affair - a sticker is going to reveal you have one and it will be removed fast. The idea is that it stays on the bike for as long as possible so that it can be tracked. There is no place on any bike that a thief couldn't get to it in about a minute and remove it tossing it in a hedge.
I have bike trac, some love it some dont, it does a job, and good thing is you can move it from bike to bike
Cheers all. Interesting that no one has recommended the Datatool one or the original "tracker". Speaks volumes I guess, so decision made... Right I'm going shopping
