1200 Travel Insurance For Touring In Europe

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by spanish, Apr 13, 2015.

  1. Just wondered if any advice re travel insurance for a holiday in Spain. Suppose main interest is for medical expenses cover in that very unlikely situation! Lot of companies will not insure unless bike under 125cc! Happily also over the age of 70 and that doesn't help!
Company called Holiday Safe provide cover for motorcycle holidays at reasonable price (bout £40 think for 9 days) and wonder if anyone has experience.

  2. There is some useful information if you search on track day insurance. I believe there is a fair bit in the posting for Jerez in March. Andy

  3. When I last took the bike to Italy I got my medical cover through Carole Nash, it was reasonable but I can't remember how much! I also had european travel insurance that was a freebie supplied by my bank, I checked with them about riding the bike and they said providie it was my main mode of transport I was covered to ride it. In other words as long as I didn't fly and then rent a bike. I also checked at the time that both I and the bike would be repatriated should I not be able to ride it. I was covered for that too, but I cant remember if that was on the travel or medical insurance.

  4. 4Counties, BenGo and Holiday Safe have positive write ups. Andy

  5. Try Navigator Travel, Manchester, for a quote.

  6. Try the Post Office, their standard policy covers bikes up to 1500cc. Not off road though.
Annual multi trip policy (plus my wife and business cover, Europe including Spain) £104

  7. Agree. The post office is often over looked as its not directly associated with motorcycling, still it has some of the best cover you can buy. May not be the cheapest but its a known quantity.

  8. Holiday Safe have an excellent range of cover and good reputation. I am using them for very reasonable 2 wks off road 250cc bikes in Cambodia for only about £50. No, I don't work for them!

Don't forget that in Spain your medical cover should be fine with the EHIC card.

  9. I used Holiday Safe last May for trip to Italy on Moto Rail. On the way back we missed our ferry from Holland to UK as our train was delayed getting into the station due to 2 people jumping off a bridge onto the track and killing themselves. Our policy didn't cover the return trip!!!!!!!!!! So the hotel and re booking of ferry came out of our pockets. So check very carefully the small print covering your return journey.

  10.
  11. Thanks for all that. Helpful as always. Probably will do Holiday safe but look at small print carefully. Will check Post Office first as need annual travel cover as well.

  12. The EHIC is not sufficient for all you requirements, you should not rely on it alone for medical.
Cover your healthcare abroad - The NHS in England - NHS Choices

    Visitors to Spain
Your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will enable you to access the necessary state-provided healthcare in Spain at a reduced cost, or sometimes for free when on a temporary stay. The Spanish health authority determines what treatment is considered necessary and cannot wait until your return to the UK"

  13. So you should be OK if you are bleeding out but can't get them to replace your hip then?
