Trickle Charger

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by maurice beattie, Aug 9, 2023.

  1. Hi folls , do i need to buy the specific Ducati trickle charger for the sp or will an ‘ordinary’ one do, thanks

  2. Any battery maintainer designed for the battery chemistry of the battery fitted and manufactured by a reputable company, will be fine. Most maintainers will be supplied with a pig tail to connect direct to the terminals of the battery which is my preferred connection. This, https://no.co/genius2, is my preferred product (available from Amazon or Halfords) but there are others that will do the job. Andy

  3. I use an Oxford Oximiser on both bikes

The fancy Ducati one didn’t last.

  5. I've got the Ducati one (they gave it to me with the bike), but I suppose it's basically just Optimate in disquise? They seem to be using the same pig tail connector, so I'm thinking, if the Ducati one packs up, I can just keep using the optimate 4 I take it? V4 Rally

  6. I have an optimate 4, but use a Noco since fitting a Lithium Ion battery

  7. I’ve never used one and i can’t remember having a problem. My current bike, M1200S, is a 65 plate with over 30,000 miles, still has the original battery and has always started without a problem. Even after spending one, very wet winter outside under a cover.

My bike is unmodified (though it came with the full termi system), I don’t tend to mod my bikes. If you have something fitted that drains the battery you might need one but other than that, why would you?

Sod’s Law says my bike will fail to start next time I try it because the battery is dead.

  8. Years ago, my monster was exactly the same as you describe, just wasn't draining the battery at all. After that I had the BMW R1150GS - this bike was eating batteries like no tomorrow. Bought about 5 of them over 11 years, and would require the charger on for anything longer that 2 weeks of not riding. Bike was stock as well. Now back on Multistrada, I'm reminded how good their system is. Hooked up the trickle charger after I've been dicking around bike menu, without engine running, thinking I'll get the battery low. Nope, was not really charging. So I'll probably just use it to bridge winter.

  9. Used oximisers on my bikes for a while but kept having problems, never worked out why! My two bikes now, Triumph and ST4, both have Lithium batteries and I have a Noco Genius1 which works well. It comes with crocodile clips which are fine for the Triumph's underseat battery but a pain with the Ducati fairing. However a lead is available, which I now have that attaches to the battery permanently and has a plug to attach the charger. Perfick!

  10. A bit late now but if you unscrew the crocodile clips, you have your battery terminal pig tail :D. Andy

  11. Thanks Andy. I use the clips on the Triumph anyway so having both is useful. Cheers B

  12. has anyone come up with a better connector than the ones that look tamiya? little whites ones?

they are a bit flimsy, mine keep coming apart

just wondering if anyone fixed something more beefy on

  13. I use an Optímate 1 and the connector seams sturdy enough. Comes with a thick rubber top which gives the connector plenty of protection.

  15. Another for Optimate 1,2 and three versions, a very reliable product in my nine years Ducati ownership period.
