I wonder if anybody can shed a bit of light on this. This is how the turn indicators automatic reset works..... from the user manual 1200s 2013.. "Turn indicators are automatically reset by the instrument panel. After activating one of the two turn indicators, they can be deactivated using the reset button (4). If the turn indicator is not “reset" manually, the instrument panel will automatically switch it off after the motorcycle has travelled 500 m (0.3 miles) from when the turn indicator was activated. The counter for the distance travelled for automatic deactivation is activated at speeds below 80 Km/h (50 mph). If the calculation of the distance for automatic deactivation is activated and then the motorcycle exceeds a speed of 80 km/h (50 mph), the calculation is interrupted and will restart when the speed returns below the indicated threshold. " I am a bit puzzled as to why Ducati decided to use distance instead of time. I would have thought time would be the best measurement as we can reach and exceed 50mph in a shorter distance than 500m. If not mistaken other manufacturers use time eg BMW Your comments please....... and please note that I rarely leave my indicators on but now and then it does happens and on those occasions I never had the benefit of this facility as I was over the 50mph by then.
The self canceling conditions are almost impossible to achieve. Ducati didn't want the sig canceling unexpectedly when a time limit ran out so came up with a complicated condition. Typically a numbered countdown (8 sec - 10 sec) that is suspended when the brake is on and resumes when brake is released works under most conditions. I've never experienced a self cancel on the turn sigs. I habitually leave it on but the multi dash indicators are bright enough that I notice within 30 sec. There's gotta be a better system.
Apparently on the X Diavel the self cancelling indicators are lean sensitive so cancel after you've turned.
