1299 Tyres - I Dare Say It's Been Covered To Death But....

  1. I'm off to the 'Ring next month. I'll be riding from home, about 700 miles each way, and I'm after advice on which tyres to fit. I fear it'll be basically dull roads there and back, with a lap or two of the Ring while I'm there and hopefully a few hours playing in the local area as well.
    Thanks!

  2. Perhaps Bridgestone s21's?

The supercorsas will be murdered after that amount of upright mileage imo

  3. It doesn't have to be dull! Motorway to Saint Quentin, then east through the Ardenne, southern Belgium and then north to the Ring. Cracking ride!
Supercorsas will be a waste. There and back plus a few laps will be ok (the ring is low abrasion due to the cars sliding everywhere) but if you have a cold or damp day there you won't enjoy them. I have used M7RRs and liked them. Last year during a course at the Ring my instructor was using Pilot R4s on his Blade and he was fu€king quick!

  4. I'm currently running M7RR's. Good in the dry, excellent in the wet ( more confidence inspiring than the SC's) , and more mileage (approx 5k of mixed miles compared to 3k)
They have held shape better than the SC's & that includes some longish motorway / dull A road stuff.
The wear indicators work too unlike the pirellis which go from thread to metal as a warning!
The ride is a little harsher than the SC's though.
Overall, very pleased & treating the bike to a new pair next week.

  5. I've done Folkstone to Nurburgring trip on Super Corsas without a problem. With route are you taking, France or Belgium?

Make sure you research the roads around there, especially around Cochem, there's some blinders [emoji1303]

  6. The Metzellers are definitely more practical if the weather is looking suspect and about as good in the dry but Supercorsa SPs are still perfectly ok for a Nurburgring trip as it's not that far. With some good riding on the journey and a few laps of the Ring you'd probably still have half a set of tyres left once you got back. Worst case you've used them up but had a much better riding experience than if you down graded to a touring tyre thats not really up to the job of the Panigale. If you're not riding that hard then fair enough but it's still more fun on the proper sports tyres. Doing the motorway routes would be tiring as you are not moving on the bike much so worth considering the St Quentin route mentioned above if you have a bit more time. I got from London to southern Italy and back up to Turin on a set of Supercorsas, admitedly they were awful by the time I changed them but I had a lot of fun getting them like that :)

  7. I'll be going mainly motorway I suspect, in company with a Kawasaki Vulcan (a custom type thing). I'm not planning any rapid laps of the ring anyhow, it's more a bucket list thing than a desire to be fighting for road space with coaches and who knows what else! I'll have a look in a couple of weeks, see what's about. There's 1500 miles on the current pair already, I suspect doing the same again (minimum) would be pushing my luck somewhat!

  8. Yes agreed, the existing ones will be very squared off at the end of that and I wouldn't want to ruin (or risk) going around the Ring with a squared off set of tyres. Shame to do all those motorway miles; Calais to Brussels is incredibly boring straight motorway. At least do yourself a favour and go the southerly route on the GPS after Brussels and head towards Leige and then turn south past Spa and over the hills. Do some homework to check the best route but it's all really good once you get onto the 410 on the last stretch :)

  9. I did a summer trip to Wales and thought the supercorsa would be ok perhaps on another 500 miles from your set, the motorway just cooked the centre section and then after an afternoon playing around up there i was surprised to see the middle section down to the wire. (they go from looking ok to nothing in the rear weirdly quickly and the tread indicators are useless)

had to get a new set up there in the end. In saying that i manage to get a few days on track out of them and love them on the twistys Just be aware that a long motorway run may shred them depending on how your riding.

    Enjoy the trip

  10. My hand has been forced. My 1700 mile old rear is no longer air tight, courtesy of a nail on my 300 mile commute. M7RRs on order. Bugger bugger shit, I was hoping for another 1000 miles then bin them just before I go to Europe (early May).

  11. Must be me but I think the m7rr is the worst tyre (based on reviews) that I ever tried.... Bought them for my rsv4 (they almost had me off twice) transferred then to my Z1000 (no difference) but knew what to expect... As im not made of money I had to use them. A nail in the rear was repairable but a second nail was the clincher.... Don't think I've ever been so happy to ruin a set of tyres...
