I don’t think it is a good idea to buy tyres before you need them. I never buy tyres from the shelf. Better to order fresh ones according to my tyre fitter. You really feel the difference between a fresh one and one from the shelf that is eg. 1 year old.
I’m a track day fiend. I’ll happily buy rubber 2 or 3 years old. I never feel the difference in grip and longevity isn’t really noticeable either IME…
Most of the stuff on the shelf isn’t fresh dude. it’s not unusual to get manufacture dates of a few years old or more in some cases. It’s more about how they’re stored.
Oi, what’s with the Tom Jones? Seriously, I think you’re right. A tyre man told me they should never be stored below 5 deg C.
