Hi Struggling a bit (a lot), trying to remove the front wheel axle on my SS. Annoying thing is, I've managed this before, but for the life of me can't get the axle bolt to fully undo this time. Haynes suggests you slacken the pinch bolts on RHS (bolt head side) but not the other side. Then simply undo the main axle bolt. However, it will simply not budge. If I slacken the pinch bolts on the other side as well, then the axle does unscrew to a point where the whole head of the spindle RHS end protrudes from the fork, but just keeps turning and can't be removed. I don't want to cause any damage. Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong. I'm wondering if the threaded end is seized within the pinch bolt 'collar' (if that's the correct term), which is why it just keeps turning. Yours pissed-offingly
Squirt some WD40 into the collar end, wait half an hour; then turn the axle again - if you are sure it isn't coming out further (so it is at the end of it's thread as such) then get a wooden dowel and give the axle a tap at the thread end. But it looks to me as though it isn't coming out of the collar, so tighten up the collar end pinch bolts first - all they do is stop the collar from turning and prevent it doing what you have got.
