Some time ago there was someone on here asking whether it was possible to buy a replacement VIN plate from Ducati as something untoward had happened to theirs. I sent a frame for blasting, they blanked everything else off, but the VIN plate. Is now has a uniform finish to the rest of the frame. Yes, I should have either removed it, or blanked it off, myself, but given that the blanking off was all part of the service they offered, it didn't occur to me to doubt them. Live and learn. I spoke to VIN TAGS UK today, they will make one, not screen printed aluminium, but anodized. The digits are then either printed, punched or embossed as per the original, but only from a copy of your logbook if the bike's registered in your name. As they do not currently stock Ducati VIN plates, the cost for a one off would be in the region of £120, if 6 or so were to club together, the cost would be much closer to the £39.99 they advertise for most plates. Feel free to express an interest here, or PM me
I had a frame coated and after the process the VIN was just not there. So I stripped back the coating to reveal a very flat VIN which was just filled by the powder coat making it invisible So I re did it by hand dot by dot Then had it wet painted.
Good boy. Like it. I'll be doing mine in a year or two and I'd not given this a thought. But hey, now I know!
Aaaah you see, I personally masked mine up to fuck. Like putting spare bolts in the holes etc. While it'd grieve me do so i know a scratch with the screw driver and peeling of some tape I'd find my original frame number stamped in the original colour paint. But having the powder coaters put the VIN number on my receipt should prevent the need to ruin the wonderful job they did. Along with a few pictures of before and after. All of which are pointless as I've never intended to sell the bike anyway. Or rather nobody would pay what I want for it.
