1200 Valve Clearances

  1. I'm part way through changing cam belts on my 2012 MTS1200 S touring. They are being changed for age not mileage (and overdue at that but didn't get much use last year) , but I decided to look at the valve clearances whilst I had it stripped down. The openers are all within tolerance and very consistent with most at 0.006" (one at 0.005" and one at 0.007"). The closers are all quite consistent too, again with most atv0.006" (one at 0.004, one at 0.005"). Problem is it looks like the closers should be between 0.002" and 0.004". It almost looks like the closers were set wrong from new.

Anyone else found theirs like this? I've no prior experience with ducati valve trains.

  2. Way above my pay grade for that sort of advice!

  3. You've probably got this sorted by now but FWIW the closeers value you are quoting is upon assembly and for the valve inspection at 15000 mls the tolance is .002 to .006", so it looks like they're OK.

  4. @rotaxracer oooo err I've got a crap emoji a man of few words, none in fact.

It would be nice for some enlightenment, the figures I quote come from the workshop manual for the 2014 Multistrada.

  7. Words of one syllable is all my intellect can manage I’m afraid! As for the emoji can’t be arsed!
