The SL is an 1199 with expensive bits bolted on. Thats all it is. The Desmo is a different beast altogether. Beast being the operative word. My money would be on a desmo. The SL is just a marketing tool.
A marketing tool with fancy pants materials used. It does look good though. The 'thing' Gannet had drawn up on the other hand, what a waste of time and effort. Looks like a smolten maxi scooter.
Shite. A mate of mine has just gone from a 1199R to SL and he said the difference was amazing. And he certainly doesn't pussy foot about on a bike, he's rapid on road and track. 54k is crackers all right but you pay your money and take your choice....
No, it's not. This is pretty much the 2015 race bike. Engine, loom clocks - all will be used without modification on the wsb bikes next year. Closer to a race bike than anything else Ducati have produced previously, IMHO.
Ok. It has expensive racing bits bolted on. But it has no provenance yet Jerry. Its not won a race. To me, the Desmo has the provenance to match it's exclusivity. Thats why I personally rate it higher. I stand by the marketing tool comment. Its what Audi would do. The Italians would've built the same bike and charged you 35k instead.
In std trim, well race system and a little carbon instead of plastic, it weighed in with 9l of fuel less than the BSB rules allow. Must be bit more than a few bolted on pretty things
That's fair. But even the head gaskets on this thing are the real deal. They're proper race items - £100 or more. Each. In terms of the rarity, the 'specialness' (too much Prosecco to think clearly), it's up there with the Desmo. You could take the view that the Desmo is a development of the race bike, whereas this is the bike ready to go. I think your view is right - the Desmo won a championship, the Pani hasn't, but in 2015, all manufacturers will be running production bikes under the same rules. The Pani could benefit from the WSB and BSB developments over the past couple of years. Look at the Barni bikes in proddie CIV - they're cleaning up. Far too long and rambling. Blame the bubbles
