916 Vented Front Carbon Mudguard

  1. Would anyone have more info on, or even know the part code for, these very very appealing vented front carbon mudguards?

    Judging from their size and finish, they must have been official racing options to some early 916's (possibly those with the floating disks) but have failed to find more history/information on them.

  2. I had one on my 916 for a while (though not sure if it was Ducati branded or aftermarket?), as far as I could see there was no real benefit for cooling, especially once I fitted new forks with radial calipers as they sit lower down.

    If anything it allows more crap to get on your fork tubes, as such I now have a 1098/1198 style mudguard as it covers more (probably better aero too?).

    Not sure if it was a racing thing? see this Ducati Performance catalogue from back in the day;

    there are 3 types shown but none appear to be vented?

    Here's a pic of mine as was;

  3. Just need a dremel, some wire gauze and a rivit gun.

  4. Very dramatic as far as appearances go, but I hear you on the very valid points as regards its actual benefits (if any at all).
    If anyone has seen one offered for sale, preferably new (as carbon fiber does not age as well as the 916), do let me know.
    Think I will give it a try on the 998S.

  5. Please don’t….
