  1. Suppose I'd better cancel my Kasperski subscription and delete it.

Been using it for years with no issues and found it soooo much better than Norton, MCafee, etc in that it doesn't ingrain itself into your system so much.

I know I'm going to regret asking this - but any recommendations?

    Ta

    EDIT
As has been pointed out by several people, it's Kaspersky, not Kasperski.

  3. I use Avast on macOS, but believe it's also available for Windows.

It's free, very good, and used to just quietly go about its business. These days, you get the occasional pop-up trying to upsell something, but it's not too bad.

    Recommended.

  4. Glad to read that avast is good now, I used it around 15 years ago and it was very intrusive, it was free so can’t complain. I use Malwarebytes now and so far very good, but I do pay for this one.

  5. So why do you feel the need to ditch Kasperski ? Andy

  6. thanks Andy, worked it out, with a "sky" at the end it wasn't hard - "sky" pronounced "Ski" in this case. :)

  7. call me cynical, but always thought of the oh-so-everso-friendly RT/Russian Times station as nothing but a massive media information gathering net imposed on many/all who visited.

  8. Sorry Chris, you've lost me, house arrest is getting to me I think.

It's simply a moral thing, I've woken up and realised I'd rather not send any money to Russia.

  11. Ah, yes, thanks for that'

Couldn't agree more on a purely technical front, but I'm allowing my morals to get in the way.

  12. On my home PC and laptops I use windows defender which is very, very good these days, plus CCleaner and Malwarebytes as backups and for cleaning.

For work it gets a bit more secure with defender plus Forticlient and a dedicated VPN tunnel, but I have not had virus or intrusion issues since Windows 95 was the current edition, even then only from dodgy emails I had the naivety to click on. :)

I have tried Avast, Kaspersky, Norton and most if not all the others in the intervening years, but all are just serial drags on memory and computing power for zero additional benefit.

ANYTHING free in AV is not worth having outside of MS Defender

  13. maybe a dedicated thread would be better, but interested to know which VPN people have found to be the best over the years.

  14. I've used Avast free version for years without any problems. I don't visit dodgy sites, though.

  17. 1.1.1.1 warp vpn is free & protects your Internet address requests (DNS lookups) from snooping (from your ISP mostly) Also has a phone app version. You can set it up to block malware (dns) address lookups too.
