Voltage Regulator 1198 Woes

  1. So I posted some time ago about my flashing dash and replaced the stock voltage regulator with a cheap item on ebay. Big mistake as 2 nights ago (100 miles of use) my headlight packed up whilst riding home in the dark. The voltage was rising rapidly to over 15 volts due to the failure of the regulator again, which in turns makes the headlamp turn off to protect itself (and indicators). Anyways eventually decided to risk riding home in rush hour after the AA ignored my calls for 5 minutes and got back safe and sound.

The next morning I bought a Mosfet unit from Moto-Electrical in the UK who in turn had it delivered to me 2017-10-27 09.36.22.jpg within 24 hours and problem solved. Moral of the story is do not buy a cheap unit from China/ebay or wherever, but spend the £100 odd and get something that is obviously much better made and will, I hope, prove to be a much more reliable unit with worry free riding from now on.

  2. As the reg/ rec is one of the most common electrical problems on Ducati particularly the older models I can't believe why anyone would still try to take the cheap option. I learnt the hard way after my first failed I bought an Electrex unit that only lasted a year, now on my seventh year trouble free with the Shindengen Mosfet.

  3. Or fit a 2nd hand panigale or diavel one. They come up on eBay every now and then for £40.
