  3. Was the Sachs shock fitted to the IEs?

Apologies for hignorance, but I thought they were confined to late carbed SSs with the steel swingarm.

The reason I mention it is that the carbed SS Sachs shock shouldn't really be fitted to the carbed SS ally swingarm........The eyes of the carbed SS Sachs shock are too large OD within the swingarm lugs and they make contact with the lugs when the shock is turned on its joints.

  4. I could be mistaken, was led to believe as the breakers that sold it to me said it was Sachs and it's noticeably different to the original Showa on my '92 900, it has the blue anodised thumbwheel on the remote res. and had the desired longer stroke from the later ie model when compared the original Showa unit.

(found the measurements I made at the time of the install, the later shock gave approx. 15mm increase over standard, taken vertically from rear axle to lower frame tube)

  5. Its definitely a Sachs shock and as you say it is longer than the carbed one, 15mm is about right, then I assume it came from an IE.......but did IEs always have an ally swingarm or were they steel?

You can see the eyes and the joint bearing bushes are larger on the Sachs.
