  2. Can you show a pic or a better description please.

  3. evolu.jpg The bearing carrier 003 MG 009 can be seen in the picture. Mine has managed to fuse the carrier, the bearing, the "top hat" and the clutch pushrod into one piece. I'm going to try to press it all apart, but I can see the bearing carrier coming off worst.

Reason is, the "Deep" clutch slave cylinder fitted to my bike recently shit the bed and is leaking like something else.

I've got a horrible feeling it's because the clutch pushrod is spinning in the end of the slave piston because the bearing in the carrier has seized and this in turn has caused the seals to fail.

    What do you think?

  4. I would proceed with stripping the clutch to see what is beyond salvage and then determine what needs replacing.
Not sure what a “deep” clutch slave cylinder is though.

  5. "Deep" is just a brand name. Probably Japanese, 'cos my bike was an import from Japan. I've purchased an Oberon to replace it.

The bike had lots of aftermarket bits fitted, including a knackered carbon ventilated clutch cover. Unfortunately, it had been stored/stood for a time and the ventilated cover had admitted water - the clutch basket and other bits were really rusty and as it was worn, I replaced it. Most of the evo slipper was OK though so it just needed a bit of a clean-up.

That's when I found out that the clutch pushrod, top-hat and bearing were all firmly seized into that bearing rest, probably because of the aforementioned wetness.

In fact, there was a bloody tide mark in the clutch housing!

The ventilated cover has now been replaced with a conventional one off ebay with the rubber seal.

I'm not too worried about the pushrod, top-hat and bearing as they are fairly readily available, but because the bearing rest is alloy, I'm a bit nervous about how it will fare when I attempt to press it all apart....

  6. Is it one of these?

I would disassemble and carefully push out the bearing and top hat from the bearing carrier.
If you support the carrier then you should not damage it.
Try a good penetrating oil in advance.

  7. Yep, the part numbered 2 on the diagram....

  8. Well FWIT, removed effed slave cylinder this morning, ran engine up and clutch pushrod not spinning. Engine off, clutch pushrod free to rotate so bearing still bearing, as it were....as a result, didn't touch the other side. Will still try and get the bits for a new assembly, though, just for peace of mind.

Did the slave swap, Oberon went straight on, bled it through with my trusty ebay vacuum bleeder - a tiny bit of air was trapped in the line but just held the lever down with a strap for an hour or so and it firmed up fine.

Went out and did 50 miles or so, normal service resumed.

    So back on the road.

Thanx RickyX for the input. :upyeah:

  9. Thread closed then?

  10. Glad you sorted it.
Basically, not a lot wrong with it apart from the shite slave cylinder!

  11. ....I would still be interested in the bearing rest, if anybody's got one...

    Thanks.

  12. Don't STM still supply spare parts for these bling clutches?
I bought a pair of genuine STM "Spider" springs for my earlier type slipper clutch a couple of years back now.
But I did find them on the web in the States.
Last time I looked EVO and STM were both still selling clutches.

  13. You're quite correct chap but my question still stands, as to don't they still supply spare parts?

  14. I’m sure it’ll just clean up. Just because the top hat is tight in it doesn’t mean it’s not salvageable.
