1200 Warranty Options

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by MotoNik, Jan 6, 2016.

  1. So...my manufacturer warranty has expired and my dealer wants £399 for a 12 month warranty, which has a £1000 claim limit on it. Seems steep... Can anyone recommend any alternative products?

  2. Afraid I don't have any reccomendtions but that's a shocking deal!

  3. They usually sneak in other caveats too. Examples being they won't deal with any claim that isn't engine, suspension or drivetrain related. Get a fault that's not stopping you riding and they'll not pay

  4. I'm looking at extending my 899 cover & tried a quick online quote on warranty direct, they wanted over £600 for one year. I vaguely remember reading you can haggle over the phone with them. They seem to list items that are covered & exclude everything else. Would be interesting to hear of any other options & any warranty direct feedback? ( I really wish that exhaustgate hadn't happened with the 959 .. Would not be considering the extended warranty option..)

  5. Not sure I agree with these warranties. Doesn't seem to me you are getting much fr your dosh. Plus are you expecting your bike to break down? No faith in it?
They all get you on the fear angle, and many fall for it.

    I agree

    Yep

    Nope

It's my Ducati, you will be comforted to hear my fear did take hold when I bought a new toaster..

  7. Well I think it's fair to say I can at least expect to be replacing a fuel level sensor in the next year. What else can I expect, among common Multistrada faults, and how much might they cost me?

  8. So far, on my 2013 Multi S Touring, I've had some issues and also been documenting issues for after the warrantee expires:
    - watching the oil level for oil consumption. It starts consuming oil after a while - seems related to age/miles of the oil
    - watching the problem of trouble shifting 5th an 6th gears
    - heated handgrips went out and needed to be replaced
    - left fork had a burr and caused a blown fork seal - Ducati actually did NOT cover this under warrantee - said it is a wear and tear item... though this happened less than 8 months after I bought it new
    - rear brakes got super mushy - reported and bled, now watching for continued issues
    - front brake mushiness - reported and bled...got better then worse... just documented w/ the dealer again to track for when the warrantee expires
    - fuel sensor finally went out - I'm glad it happened before the warrantee expired. It's been wanky for a while, and finally the check engine light came on, the fuel gauge went blank, and I got a message that the is an issue with the fuel sensor. So the bike is in the shop again, and I expect to get a new fuel sensor. I hope this actually fixes the problem of registering the fuel level (hope it works immediately after refueling - I used to have to wait a few minutes for the gauge to register)

Some of the items above, I can live/deal with - I just want them documented in case they turn into real issues once the warrantee expires.
Luckily, I have not had any real issues w/ the parts that make the bike go fast. I can accept the higher maintenance costs compared to a Japanese bike - I just wish the overall quality were better on such an expensive bike, and I do not think it is acceptable to have to put up with these known issues with the Multi.

  9. I bought my 1200GT as a just over 2 year old bike and the dealer gave me a years warranty which I was aware was part of the purchase price and about 400 quid iirc.

Since then I have had a headlight unit where the LED on once side failed replaced FOC, cost for the unit £600.....Heated grips FOC, Cost of a new set £200..... set of plugs, diagnostic work and ECU refresh and update FOC, cost ??? but at £70 an hour maybe £100-£125 all in.

Loan bike for each visit and I didn't include the labour on the light and grips work

I think I have had my moneys worth already and glad of the peace of mind it has given me and will give me till August. I know I can go back to them with almost any problem as long as I haven't caused it and it will be dealt with

  10. I think what irks me is that I would effectively be buying a warranty to protect against failures of known issues - like the fuel level sensor. I had a new one fitted a couple of months ago and I'm already suspicious that it's on the way out. But because the bike is out of warranty factory it pisses me off that I have to cover the cost of replacement of a part that will undoubtedly fail again. Not amused!

It's a pity because i really love my Multistrada, it's fantastic to ride and everything I want in a bike. But it's let down badly by small details that should have been sorted by now.

  11. sorry but that is a shite deal, I paid £399 for an after market warranty when I b ought my 2010 multi in November 2014 from Aylesbury Ducati and its up to £3k per claim.

That said both issues I have had ( dashboard and suspension control unit ) have been done under good will by ducati with me only paying the rather small amount of labour time for both (1.5 hrs labour in total for both faults)
