1. just had Ian awesome week in Tuscany with ducati leeds, but could have done with my own sat nav . could anybody
recommend one . garmin or tom tom.

2. I've got TomTom on my phone which works well and removes the need to carry the extra item. It doesn't allow you to plan itineraries and save them for later but its about £500 cheaper than the Zumo so I can live with that. I think the lack of itinerary planning is a TomTom thing.

3. Moved to gadgets

4. +1 for Smartphone solution. I use the Navigon app on an iPhone and hardwired power source/cradle. I can even use RouteConverter on a PC or Mac to plan my route in advance and transfer to the phone.

Also got a metre of conductive thread to sew into my glove, so touchscreen not a problem. Finally, I also got one of these for wet weather, which still works with the touchscreen, so no functionality lost over Zumo or TomTom.

5. CoPilot on the iPhone works brilliantly, from memory it was about £35 for all of Europe and that included a years free live traffic updates and speed cameras.

6. Just returned from two weeks touring Italy using a Garmin Zumo 220. Found it superbly helpful.
