Hello All What fuel do you use? I'm currently putting the expensive stuff in my new 1200s PP think it's 95 or 97 octane depending on the garage! Thanks
Diesel, but I find it spills all over place and scooters get wrecked Ultimate, but have used supermarket piss when caught dry
Octane levels dont make any diff. Unless you have a high comp engine. 95 is fine. Higher numbers are less prone to predetonation. Tbh 87 is fine. But 95 is most common. 97 is a waste. However no doubt someone will disagree.
I most often use the premium fuel from my local supermarket. I've done so for many years. Never had any problems with it, as far as I can tell.
Shell V Power unless I’ve made a boo boo and can’t find any. It’s not the octane I’m interested in so much as the additive packs. I’ve seen many BMW 1200 engines clogged up after using cheap petrol, and premium cars misfiring and grumbling on supermarket stuff. So I use V Power in my bikes and Shell Fuelsave in the car.
If you are touring around Europe, you just have to use whatever fuel you can find as you go along. No chance of getting pernicketty about which brand is might be.
I've had very noticeable issues using the lower octane grade stuff in the Panigale in Europe @Pete1950. I havn't noticed so much in the UK so perhaps it is psychological but I always use V Power or similar just in case. I get what people say above about the octane level being irrelevent but I have 100% noticed the difference on several occasions in France and Italy so perhaps its the additives or something. I've got no issues using supermarket (high octance) fuel, I've always used it on cars and bikes and never noticed a difference. My understanding was it all came from the same distributors anyhow?
I’ve only ever ran my 1299 on v power. at brands I filled up with some poverty spec juice from the Texaco down the road and the bike almost felt like it had a miss fire at times. Kept bogging down as well. Could just of been a dodgy batch ofcourse
Tesco and Sainsbury's do not have any oil wells or refineries, they just buy fuel on the market. Who do they buy it from? Shell, BP, Esso, Texaco, or whoever has any to spare.
Good point. If a petrol station has rusty old storage tanks with a layer of sludge and water at the bottom, results can be poor regardless what brand name is displayed on the signs. My local station recently installed new tanks (at great expense) so their petrol is really clean, which is reassuring.
Bp Ultimate if I can get it for my Streetfighter. The usual high octane stuff in anything else. Anything in my scooter as it's too fast anyway. Diesel in my car or for sloshing on roundabouts.
Shell VPower if i can find it, or the nearest petrol station if your not in your county... Travelling abroad one time coming back from Italy, it was either the border Austria or Germany there was a fuel station with a minimal 105ron and the highest was 120ron i didnt think at the time to take a photo...
Imho, the main reason for using expensive fuel is the hope that it will have a lower ethanol content. Shell are particularly cagey about the ethanol content of their fuels though.
