What Happened To Pecco?

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by RC1, Sep 24, 2025 at 10:00 PM.

  1. I like him and its agonizing watching him doing the press rounds after each race. What happened and are his days in MGP numbered? Who will fly the Italian flag for doocardi once he's not extended?

  2. Couple of things I reckon. First of all, MM has knocked his mojo out park with his dominance. Secondly, other manufacturers have caught up with the red machine. During Peco’s purple patch the Ducati was boss. Not so much now. Which just confirms how good MM is on that grid. He will fade, everyone does. But not with the current line up.

  3. Still 70 points ahead of the other factory bike.
Maybe what he’s been complaining about is true and AM has dodged a bullet jumping straight on to the ‘26 bike next year…
    Time will tell.

  4. Is it just that MM93 skills are hiding the difficulties of riding this bike?

  5. I know all the delicate farts on here will roll their eyes at this but for arguments sake, if it’s as simple as 93 being the greatest rider ever to swing a leg over a motorcycle yadder yadder, why is his brother only 60 points behind his total from last year on the same bike and likely to overtake it by some way by the time the season ends?

    Genuine question.

  6. Because AM73 has improved greatly as a rider, especially after sharing a garage with MM93 last season?
And he’s on the 24 spec bike, which is arguably a better/easier bike to live with?
And while MM can ride around the GP25’s limitations (see Honda days for reference), Pecco can’t?

Not an answer as such, but considerations.

It’d be interesting to swap AM73 and FB63 in terms of bikes and see how it went…...

  7. There are far too many variables to get a good answer to that -for me at least.

What is more simple is to compare two riders on the same bike, and I do think the bikes are the same.

    So let’s consider Pecco:

He is firmly top 3 so he has not totally lost the plot
MM93 is better than him (and probably everyone else)
The bike is more difficult for him than it is for MM93

  8. Cant argue with that. So to answer the OP he just hasnt gelled as he normally does with the latest factory bike (and would also suggest he hasnt had the support from DT and GD) as he has in the past.

  9. I have to work at a certain place in Cheltenham, we have to be escorted (not trusted) one of the escorts is an absolute Rossi fan, she’s bonkers about him. When I suggested that MM was better as Rossi could be quite “dirty” I thought she was going to turn me into a Eunuch:D
It was quite funny so I carried on winding her up.

  10. Yeah I think that he has not gelled well and Marquez has, so by contrast he looks bad but Pecco being Third makes any idea that he is not still brilliant laughable.

Alex gelling extremely well with his bike makes it look worse. But without that, Ducati would be finishing 1st & 2nd every race and the background noise significantly less imo

  11. Every race weekend there’s a new quote from Tardozzi basically saying Pecco needs to do this, Pecco needs to do that better.
Never had that before has he and can’t be great for your confidence.
I’m convinced *something has gone on behind the scenes.

  12. Sensible answers
crystal ball gazing, how does he fare next season?

  13. yes - he is getting rather annoying and he's a smug fu$ker at the best of times

  14. Where will he be?

  15. Lost a bit of respect for him this year tbh (I’m sure he’ll be devastated etc)

With regards next year, it doesn’t look great for the rest, whether that includes Pecco or not is anyone’s guess..

Be interesting to see how Aldegeur and Frankie get on next year with the 25 bike.

  16. At the start of the season Pecco was doing ok - coming in 3rd - collecting points and trophies.
Granted he was not winning. He just had to hang in there and make Alex his target for the season - completely forget about MM93.

Being a long season he could have maybe made P2 in the championships - if Alex had a couple of DNFs.

I don't know how you go from there to where he is now - finishing +14 seconds and +16 seconds - right at the back. How the hell he can go from regularly on the podium to regularly at the back, in the same season on a factory Ducati.

I reckon he needs a good session on the bike with the TC switched off and doing wheelies - get the fun / feeling and confidence back in his head and in his attitude.

    Solved ;)

  17. Definitely needs to get his obvious enjoyment back (which was there for all to see even when he got pipped by JM last year) and why I mentioned a couple of weeks ago maybe he needs to go across to the vr46 camp at some point in the not to distant future. Get amongst people he can trust again.

Just not on the same bike he’s on now lol.

  18. Which kinda makes me wonder whether it IS the bike or the garage/personnel…..

  19. MM93 has destroyed Pecco’s confidence by being so damn good on the bike.
It must be galling to be the fastest rider on the factory bike one season and then being very second best the next.
We won’t see the like of Marquez again for a very long time, if at all. He is just so much faster than everyone else.

  20. I agree to an extent. There’s still such a Spanish domination now though.
The likely moto 2 champion won’t get a moto gp ride next year because of his passport.
    Not healthy for any sport.
