So! A while back I noticed an oil leak on my 2013 Multistrada GT. On inspection I tracked it down to the oil filter. Must have come a small bit loose. (Ducati tech was the last one at it). Plan is to replace oil n filter, sorted. But then I noticed oil passing out of this black plastic part. It sits behind the oil filter and in theory should be sealed if the oil filter is fitted. But what is it, is it damaged?? Help.
That is a sprung sealing plate. It allows bypass to the oil filter. The black part should able to move when pushed as it reacts to oil pressure.
Thanks, there's oil coming through it and no movement. Would it be OK once the oil filter goes back on? I'm a bit wary with it.
Yes, it is fine. Oil will be draining slowly from the return pipe behind the diverter spring by gravity.
