I've not rode my Multi much of late as I'm keeping the miles down (hoping someone will buy it) and riding the 899 So I plugged in my garage bike charger into the power socket on the left side of the bike when wow the whole bike powered up, dash was fully just like I had the wifi key with me (that I didn't)...? Made me jump! What's this all about?
Most definitely not. I think it's some workshop mode. The display showed "remote access" or something similar in the small round part of the display!
Have you used this "power socket" before and if so was the result different. It sounds like you gave the canbus a kick up the arse.
Only used one socket to test they gave 12V for heated gear, etc. Tried again this morning and the display shows "remote key" in the round window but the bike wont start so that's a relief or else its an easy steel!
. Well I videoed this weirdness and posted it The message on the round window says "errors remote key" as shown in the video. This does seem very strange behaviour? So a random person can walk up to your bike and semi-fire-it-up by adding +12.34 volts to an AUX OUTPUT, software....????
Come on, these Multistradi are like our best friends...Sorry I did try one XR. Has anyone else seen this, surely I'm not the first owner on this planet to try this? Maybe I try the other aux output, perhaps that one allows me to drive away without the key...?
Yep the other power auxiliary on the other side of the bike does exactly the same.....powers up the whole bike (except the start button)....
I've had the same thing happen with an Optimate canbus charger. It claims to be compatible but it just cycles the bike on and off like you describe.
Nothing to do with the canbus. It's because the power outlets (and the satnav socket) are on the switched side of the hands free relay. So when you apply power to the sockets you effectively switch on the bike but it won't start because the immobiliser hasn't had the handshake from the transponder and if you tried to you'd immediately blow the fuse for the power outlets because all the power is being supplied by the external source and not the bike's battery. An Optimate or similar probably couldn't supply enough power to even blow the fuse.
