What Keeps You Going (motorcycle Wise) Through Winter ?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Alan williams, Jan 3, 2019.

  1. Do you

    Ride all year anyway ?

Strip the bike for cleaning / improvements ?

Personally I haven’t ridden or done much the last couple of years, but have started getting my bike ready for better weather thanks to my wife’s encouragement.
Spent a few hours working on it over the holidays and it’s renewed my enthusiasm.

  3. The bikes been sold but a new move is due soon then a replacement bike is being sourced. Winter allows me to catch up with all the jobs I put off in the summer so I can ride more. I think we are mostly lucky in the U.K. as we do have plenty of dry days in the winter so it is easy to ride most of the year round

  5. Pottering, stripped the track bike, a few new bits to make it better. Repairing crash damage from last season and giving it a new coat of paint and a few new stickers...
Now it’s planning track days for this season and looking into buying a van

  6. Preparing bikes for next season, race bike and track bike so there’s always something to be doing that’s bike related.

If there’s a break in the weather then I try to get out on the road bike but usually it’s tucked away until the better weather.

  7. Good luck with the move. When the time comes will you be looking to get another fugly or will you try something a little easier on the eye ? Not knocking fuglies, I have owned a couple, they are great bikes to ride.

  9. I ride all year round, but barely. Just really fancy a quick ride sometimes so ride around until the fingers get cold and go back home.

  10. I ride all year, not so frequently over winter but if I get a chance and it is dry I`m off out. Heated grips make a massive difference , wouldnt ride in winter without them now.

  11. Got my self a scooter for the worst of it, car not feasible given the extra time it takes to commute. And the pani comes out when the roads are clear and it's sunny.

Provided my hands are warm and I've not got ice cold water dripping down my neck it's all good

  12. Byways & enduro practice days.....sticky matter resulting from mixing water with earth. :) Mud

  13. Not been on a bike in a couple of weeks. My sore knee is getting a rest.

I think I might have previously mentioned my knee.

  14. This is my first year in 5 where i havnt rode all year including commuting daily . Last winter there was around 10 work days I didn't ride due to ice...
This winter I have a running van!!! And the job is only 10 mins away.. I'm loving the van!!! Don't even know how I've done it on bikes now... but.... I am missing riding real bad now... to much on my plate of late to tax and insure any bikes but I need to sort that .
Part buying and Fetling only starves it off for so long for me... I'm chomping at the bit or fizzing at the bung hole, as they say in my country ...

  15. Mmm difficult question. Ride and just forget that it's cold and dream of hot days again.:)

  16. Heated gloves

  17. I ride all year round, for sure good kit keeps you warm n dry ergo safer too. I only ride for fun or doing tuition, but it keeps me sane...i hope.

  18. I don’t ride in the winter in the UK any more.
I get on a plane and fly to the sun. I have a weekend riding then I fly back to the rain.
    It’s a great fix, it’s all I need.

I’ve just booked a long weekend for myself and the Mrs end of Jan.

£55 return..... for both of us!

You just have to look at it a bit differently. It seems rude not to.
