748 What Loctite Is Best For Clutch Assembly

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by 748rdave, Aug 3, 2020.

  1. Going to spoil the old girl and fit a new basket and plates, as the plates are well over of the 0.6mm gap and the basket has seen better days. Clutch still works OK due to filling the basket to smooth out the ridges. After reading another post , I'm tempted to use Loctite 243 as other members seem to use it, but the manual refers to Lock5 (124855 ) for the drum nut and Lock4 (510 ) for the basket screws. Do I just get the two mentioned in the manual if still available, or will 243 do the job.
Basically is anybody running a clutch using Loctite 243 on the fixings.

  2. 243 would be my choice. Maybe 270 for the drum nut if you are a bit paranoid. I would not go stronger than that.

  3. Yes, Im using 243

  4. I'll stay clear of 270 as we use it a work and its a bloody nightmare to remove. Did you change the bolts on the basket for new or re-use the old ones ?
