What oil do you guys tend to use/recommend? I’ve just bought a 1299s 2016 model and I use it occasionally on the road but mainly do track days. Also how often do you guys change your oil? I used to change the oil every 2-4 track days on my zx10r.
I was changing the oil on my old race bike after every day at the track. That was a ZX6R that was barely saw an engine speed below 6000rpm. I guess if you’re not running the engine really hard, session after session, you could safely change the oil every 2 to 4 track days. I’m sure others change it less frequently. As for the specific oil, I’ve typically followed manufacturer recommendations or at least used a reliable brand and never had a problem.
I think you will find a lot on here use Motul 300v. I use the same, 15w/50 on my 996. I change it after every 2 TD's, possibly an overkill, I'm not sure.
I used shell advance and changed every 2 trackdays. It was coming out looking the same it went in. That's £26 off eBay for 4 litres. 300v isn't needed unless you run a bsb specced engine and pricey at £50 for 4 litres.
Flacking chrome rockers is not something I want to be paying to fix, I'm happy to pay for a very high spec oil.
I know that was a common issue for bikes built before 2001. But I didn’t think it was an issue for later bikes.
