996 What Stands For Servicing Suspension?

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Jim996, Jun 16, 2019.

  1. Hi

I’m looking to get access / take off front and rear suspension on the 996.
Already have paddock stands so can get the wheels out - but that doesn’t help with the suspension

I saw there’s unused bolt holes under the engine and wondered if there was anything ready made that used these - somewhat like an engine stand?

I’m aware of the 1jac style lifts - but was just hoping for something that sat underneath instead

  2. Basic ABBA stand all day long. Andy

  3. I use an Abba with the generic adapter that goes in the rearset bolt holes so also the Swing Arm can be removed as well.

To get the front forks out i use the above but with ratchet straps from the roof joists.

  4. If you can fabricate or have a mate who can, get him to make you one of these up, using the spare engine hole. Better then stands as it’ll let you strip the bike back as far as you like.

You can pop out the swing arm spindle at the same time and clean/ regresase it while in there.

  5. Looks perfect - just what I was thinking of
Have you got a photo of where the front support goes?

  6. It has a U welded up on the bottom and the top has an 80x20x5mm piece of flat bar rolled to match the curve of the horizontal cylinder.
Just getting ready to pop up to Scotland but will take a better photo next week.

  7. You can even run a piece of bar through that hole and put on to a pair of axle stands whilst you do the rear. Or something like these
