Ok folks picking my brand new 1200s up tomorrow from dealers and wondered what checklist I should run through before I leave. Know I will be like a kid in sweetie shop so want to make sure everything is spot on before I leave! Thanks in advance........
I'd just book it in for next month while i'm there :tearsofjoy: If it's brand new, you'd think they'd have done everything. Things like the fuel sender and exhaust valve will work fine as it's brand new. You may want to check they've done the rubber bush mod on the screen to stop the vibrating. Heated grips are known to be piss poor on the new DVT. Not a lot that the dealer can do though as it seems to be the design of the new ones.
Write the engine number & VIN number down inside the manual. Request the manual spring preload is adjusted (1>10 clicks right hand fork leg) too you're liking. Check you have the tool kit & possible puncture kit under the seat zone & chain tool. Remember you are scrubbing in new tyres so take care banking it over for the first 50 miles. Running the engine in is obviously something to be mindful of; lots of gear changes & different speeds without straining the engine. Set the PIN code for emergency starting of the bike. Make sure the headlights are not blinding people or at least locate how too adjust it. I'm still reading the manual & will be doing the exact same on mine next-month. This is all that I could remember out of my sieve like brain. Take down the mileage from the dealership too your home so when you are nearing that '600' mile scenario no one can moan you over did it. Though bizarrely the service light pops on at 625miles meaning another trip too reset it. Download the pdf manual & workshop manuals so you can become knowledgeable of where things are. Power sockets & fuse panels & pin-code use. Set your clock & date & units of measurement, read up on when cruise control can be used & also heated grips. Buy & carry a spare battery for your fob; prehaps note down when you replace it. Share images or your blinging & at least one shot of bike & wheelie-bin. It's the law]
Pmsl, probably a good shout!!!! Hmm interesting, didn't know there was a rubber bush mod?? Does it affect the 2016s? Will bell him later he's probably sick of my voice now!!! Take it they changed the heated grip design from the older ones notice a few folks commenting about them!
Sound. Many thanks for that! Stuff you just don't think of when all you want is "gimmy the keys to my new bike" I'm a bloke, I don't need instructions!!!!
Old grips suffered a lot of failures but when they worked they were hotter than the sun. New ones have reduced heat to stop the elements breaking but they just aren't as good because of it. Lots of DVT riders complained of screen wobble. Last time I was in my dealers a rider was in complaining about the screen wobble and the grips.
Don't book it in for service until you will hit 625 miles on the way there otherwise the service light won't be reset. (Real service interval is 1000km, hence 625 miles in old money). Check the back brake. Mines as spongy as a sponge.
Apart from all the more obvious stuff, I would suggest you: Check all the panel gaps are even and the same on both sides of the bike - it might not be critical but sooner or later you will notice something not quite right. It took me a couple of weeks to notice that my pointy beak wasn't pointing precisely forward and that there were differences in some of the panel gaps - it bugged me until I could get it into the dealer to sort out. Check the instrument panel screen isn't scratched - if possible get a protector on it asap. Make sure that you check with the dealer what the PIN is - they change it from factory default and, if they don't tell you what it is you won't be able to reset it to what you want. Enjoy
Oh yeah; lightly holding the bars. Allow the bike to settle & hopefully not wander/crab too one side.
That would be me! But at the end of the day it's a minor niggle. I'd be interested if there is a Rubber bush fix for the screen though?
I'd make sure I remember off heart the breakdown recovery number if I was you  just joking. There's two schools of thought on breaking the engine in, I'm not sure which one I'll follow yet, but I'll have to decide when I pick mine up. But the most important thing is enjoy it.
So now you've collected your bike. What did I miss or be over-zealous about?? And where is an image..
Lol went with this great page checklist to tick off but an update came in that morning so it was back on the computer for the software update, was something about fuel trip I think!? Anyway apart from a little blip on the neutral light not coming on and a vibe from the screen at 4k (will sort at first service) the bike is bloody awesome!!!!! Pics are up on my other post from Saturday. Well worth the 6 year wait I'd say!! P.S. you didn't miss anything!!
Days away from grabbing mine now & facing the run-in period. Which will be done carefully & not hooned testing my self-control demon. Apart from a smallish glitch of forgetting to buy a foghorn clamp, mine will be ready for wednesday. Loads of stupid amounts of kit been added as I just couldn't be arsed to do things slowly or with modesty. A long period of not buying anything & saving frantically will commense into summer!
