What Would You Recommend?

  1. Afternoon all, recently purchased this bike and it has a burn mark on the exhaust. I was wondering what people would recommend to use to clear the marks of the exhaust and carbon cap. I thinks it’s a mix of burnt on chain line and I think the previous owner said it was a plastic bag that touched the exhaust.
I’m just a bit apprehensive and don’t want to damage the exhaust
    Any advice gratefully received.

  2. I guess the key thing is to establish exactly what it is thats stuck to it. If it's plastic you could try and apply some localised heat to it maybe with a hot air gun, to see if it will soften up enough for you to remove it. I'd definitely use something soft and heat resistant to begin dislodging it such as a silicone putty knife. Isopropyl alcohol soaked in a rag and placed over it will help break any adhesion. You could also try wd40. Either way you want to coax it off, so as not to risk damaging the carbon cap. Removing any residue from the silencer body does not need as much finesse. Worst case would be to de-rivet the end cap, sand it back and re-clear coat it before riveting it back on. I've seen some Termignoni silencers brought back from the dead on bikes in the past so I'm sure yours can be. Judging from you picture, you might also want to give the chain a good clean and lube. "Profi Dry Lube" is my go to chain product, as it stays where you put it, doesn't turn into a grinding paste if dirt builds up and doesn't splatter the back end of the bike in gunk.

  3. Be careful with the can as it’s titanium and you don’t want to wreck it. Nothing harsher than wd40 on it.

  4. In the past I’ve used the ‘arrow head’ pinpoint nozzle attachment on the Karcher (used for cleaning concrete?) and it has worked very effectively

  5. Cheers everyone for the advice…managed to get that side off with just patience and WD40. Thinks it was just residue chain line.
I forgot it was the other side which had the burnt on plastic. I will try the heat gun approach and might try my wife steam cleaner nozzle.
