I think your average rider would not pull the pin on 1198. The smaller bike..more confidence and better corner speed.
Got to be the 1198. The Daytona 675 is faster than the 899 around most tracks, and I doubt it’s faster than the 1198!
No doubt, I’ve owned both. With competitive riders the 675 was consistently faster than the 899 - Fast Bikes Sportsbike of the year.
Every year they competed against each other. Last time was 2016 and the 675 was 2 seconds quicker around Portimao than the 959!!
You shouldn’t be, the 675 is an absolute ripper. I think they competed for 4 years in the Sportsbike test and the 675 was always a few seconds faster than the 899 and 959. Even in my amateur hands the 675 was noticeably faster than my 899 around Donnington, Brands and Sliverstone. If you’re faster on the 899 you’re doing something wrong. Still, the 899 is an absolute stunner. Not quite the gap I thought but still...
I think your missing the average rider part. The average rider is not that fast, probably wont get the best out of a bigger bike. Can remember going from r6 to r1. Was slower for several months until recalibrated. Experienced rider...different kettle of fish!
Haha. To be fair when I initially got my 675 I was so shocked myself I researched to find out what’s what, turns out it wasn’t just me. Still, I did love my 899, it’s just not quite the weapon compared the 675R.
In my head, the 899 is a fast proper big sports bike and the 675 a bit girly 600. Guess it's not the case though.
If you want to know what’s quicker, go compare BSB superstock 600’s and tri options. That is top notch racers. 899 is quicker simply because you can, as an average rider, use 100% gas more often and carry more speed in and have less worry about traction. Also, it’s easier to steer making direction changes far easier. I would bet telemetry would show less than 5% of a lap wide open throttle for most in a 1198 on most tracks for the average rider.
