Does anyone know the wheel weights for the 1098 and 1098s? And maybe the streetfighter carbon bst wheels? I have a base 1098 SF and want to upgrade the wheels. I've looked at bst carbon options but finding limited specific info.
I fancy the BST items for the SF, but for some reason they only list them for bike from 2009 - 2011. I'm not aware that the bike changed, but there must be a difference.
whatever they are for 1098 would be the same for yours, obs they wont fit on the rear before someone jumps up, but cant imagine there would be much diff in weight
Why not direct from 1098 Bradders? Are they not a direct fit? I was under the impression 1098/1198 wheels fitted into a streetfighter?
Cheers mate... Not sure what I'm "in" for, but you don't happen to know the weight of my standard wheels while you are here do you!? I'm going to ask bst today for the weight of their carbon jobbies but I'm looking at some other options too like wheels from 1098s bikes, which I guess will fall somewhere in between my standard ones and carbon both in price and weight savings
I've got a bare 1098R front wheel in for painting at the moment. I will be picking it up (hopefully) this week. I will weigh it when it comes back. The tyre feels heavier than the bare wheel.
Thanks. I have my eye on a set of those wheels (1098r). I guess my question is... Will they give me a significant enough weight saving for less than half the cost of carbon wheels, or should I save more ££ for the extra weight saving of the bst carbon wheels? Obviously the bst are "better" wheels, but without knowing the stock wheel weights I dont know if the bsts will just add that extra 10-20% weight savings or double again...
Hello Steeevvooo i have a 1098 streetfighter base model 2011 , just wondering are you looking at it to handle better , i know weight saving on unsprung mass is always good but is it needed for the average rider ......(i dont know if you are the average rider by the way ??) Before i got my sf base i tried a sf s model and didnt really get on with it ( im not here to bash s model owners either) apart from the ohlins being much stiffer and more track focused than the plusher Showa gear i couldnt really feel much else different in how the bike rides ...... obviously the s having the Marchesinis . Maybe more top level riders would notice the difference with the wheels but i carnt say i could tell much difference , but anyhow its your dosh and choice if it floats ya boat go for it
They are carbon, and they are wheels. What more is there to know?! If you can afford them, get them. Coolest kit out there
Lee, I am average for sure as a bit of background, I test rode the new monster 1200S at the weekend and loved how flickable that felt. After reading about carbon wheels for a while now, I thought they would be a way to help create that lightness of feels and turn in. The 1098s/r wheels seem to be about 40-50% of the price of carbon wheel (for a used set) so I was thinking if I can get 80% of the benefit for half the price, that's feels like a better option for an average rider like me. And Bradders, I could afford them in theory (plus there is interest free credit on offer) but I'm a tight arse. Plus, you've met my wife... She'd probably kill me! I'm trying to justify it as 2.3k, interest free, and from what I have been told recently they should sell for a decent price used when I sell the bike... Gotta love man-maths I was considering them for the 749r but I think here will be more benefit on the SF as they are standard and so heavier wheels
