I have been working with the IAW5* family of ECUs for about 15 years and this is a first. I was asked to remove the immo from an IAW59M.A1 ECU from a 2001 Monster S4. My diagnostic/flashing software of choice is from JPDiag and has never let me down until this ECU. The software connected to the ECU and allowed the map file to download. The writer software connected and began the reflash. The final part of the reflash is where the Check Sum is calculated locking the programming. It was at this point the reflash failed. After a bit of investigation I saw that the ECU was identifying itself as an IAW59F. For those in the know this is the same ECU as used on the likes of Fiat Puntos. In the past I have come across ECUs for the ST4S that were produced by a company called Injection Correction (in Notts) that were IAW59F that I could not work with due to hardware incompatibility. I have never seen a Ducati provided IAW59F. I know there are others on the forum who use JP’s writer software. At the moment I appear to have bricked the ECU. Just be aware of this anomaly.
Dumped the ECU using MPPS to create a .bin file. Then put it into TunerPro with a 59M XDF file. The mapping appears to be intact. There is a possibility it is not bricked and that the original mapping is intact. Do not know the status of the immo (although the immo on box was unchecked). Next job is to get it back and fitted to the bike.
Could someone have swapped out the ecu in the bike’s past? I can imagine the ecu for a Fiat Punto is a lot cheaper than that for a Monster S4
It is dated 2001 electronically in the ECU and all the silver labels are the type used by Ducati. Below those are the Magneti Marelli labels showing it to be an IAW59M.A1
