I may possibly (in fact quite likely) have landed on a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Chile for a couple of weeks in November. My first thought was motorcycle trip! Does anyone have any experience? Suggestions? Advice? We (my wife (non-rider, passenger only) and I) will have from the 14th till the 22nd available to us starting in Santiago. I ask as we need to get stuff booked ASAP, and at the minute we are at zero...any helpful suggestions welcome.
I did a ski season in La Parva and the resort had plenty of snow in October so plan for it being a little chilly! The people were really kind despite Pinochet still being around & murdering them (well played Maggie). Santiago was an OK city. Valparaiso is way cool. Direct flights from Chile to Easter island too as Chile apparently rule it. I went there too and it's a must see place for everyone.
There're some shit hot volcanos to see. Ordinarily hot, too, I suppose. Some of the best earthquakes you'd be lucky to survive. And I'd certainly enquire if anyone had seen my uncle Charlie.
We visited Santiago a few years ago, interesting city and there are wine areas outside the city. The other area we visited was Torres del Paine in Patagonia which was incredible but I suspect that would be challenge to get that far unless you flew down there. The Chilean Lake District is apparently fabulous as well. Sorry I can’t be more help but you could watch the first few episodes of long way up on Apple TV. Lois Price wrote a good book about riding from Alaska to the tip of Chile called Lois on the Loose.
