Don't know why but I'm strangely drawn to this, I think it's the honesty of the seller, it's also so scruffy I'd almost be happy to leave it as it is for a while, look cool at the local bike meet, a rat 748, am I mad? http://bit.ly/1gm77h6
Buy it. I'd love to keep it but needs must. It's got a stonking motor in it, but yes it does need a full frame up resto, if you want a minter, but I've never been to fussed with paint work as long as my bikes are good to ride. It's probably worth more in parts, the guy I bought it off had already started selling bits off, before I rescued it, so I hate to see it go that way.
You'd give Luigi a ring, wouldn't you? You'd also work out what a minter would cost (though you'll never have the service history). Then you'd work out what it would cost to bring that bike up to spec (assuming you aren't going to do the work yourself). Then you'll know what it's worth to you. Could be great fun project if it doesn't end up costing a complete fortune.
And that's the problem, I'm not a home mechanic, I would rather spend £4,000 on a late E model which wants for nothing, but I still like the romantic idea of it. Good luck with the sale Dunc.
Well, if you didn't want it standard and had some good ideas for paint-schemes, etc and wanted to make a deeply personalised 748, why not? But if you want the bog-standard original article, probably not such a good plan.
If you wanted just to tidy it up and were not worried about originality £337 and job done! Ducati 748 916 996 998 1993-2002 93-02 Fairing Bodywork Kit Racing Motogp ABS D3 | eBay
Yep, make a great track bike. £2k? Hmm, well all ducati's are currently seeing something of a price hike. So for a cosmetically challenged bike that seems fair.
Sold it for a little over £2k, which I think is fair. There was a gap in the weather and dry roads this morning, so I rode it to my workshop for the buyer to collect . Damn it rides well, really gonna miss the old nail. I don't think you'll see many more Moted, and running 748s in future. I shall be looking out for the cheapest scruffiest 999, when I have some funds together again.
Someone got a good buy there, timing's not quite right for me, and really my thing is an original bike without any mods, but will be looking to buy a good standard 748/749 later this year, ready for my 50th birthday!
