Wierd Acceleration Issue

Discussion in 'Monster' started by CraigAlesandroFoschi, Mar 26, 2017.

  1. Eveningall,
Just wondering if anyone is able to guide me in the right path please.

    Bike: Ducati Monster 696+
Modifications: Termigioni Exhaust, ECU and Air Filter/Box

Issue appears to be when full throttle over 8000rpm.
    Engine Management Light comeson,
    Throttle wide open,
    loses drive,
    revs then drop,
    drive picks up again,
    change gear,
Engine Management light goes off and repeats after 8000rpm when full throttle again.

Sorry if I have failed to explain clearly and hope someone understands and can shed some light on the issue.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

  2. Rev limiter?

  3. Fuel filter hose split inside fuel tank ??
Have you checked the fuel hoses are not trapped or kinked?

  4. Also check air filter for partial blockage.

  5. Best bet is having the stored codes read from the ECU..

Can you ride through the 8000 rpm wall at half throttle?.

  6. is it the engine warning light or red lights on dash?
sounds like your hitting the limiter to me

  7. The engine management light come on, its got a rev limiter and that comes on around 10k. Having it plugged in on Thursday 13th to see if it brings up any fault codes.
Shall keep you posted if anything pops up! Thanks again for helping and replying quickly!

  8. Update - Went for annual service yesterday at Monster Motorcycles - For anyone down West Wales, Highly recommended, outstanding service! Plugged in and reader was picking up an Oxygen sensor fault code, do to having the Termignoni Ecu and Exhaust.
As a result I am going to purchase the Oxygen Sensor Eliminator.

    Many thanks for your replies!

After two rear indicator units now if anyone knows of any it would be much appreciated!

  9. Update
Have changed spark plugs and throttle position sensor.

Been on a 900 mile trip to Scotland for Knockhill BSB and I made it back without breaking down, maybe not the wisest thing to do. However problem seems to be getting worse, rev issue is happening lower down the range now and EML comes on wherever and whenever it feels like it! Seems to be after a lot of research it could be the clutch slipping but would this cause the EML to appear?!

Sorry for the delayed responses guys! Help would be much appreciated!

  10. Clutch is slipping.

Sounds like the problem I had when the DTC was fighting against the slipping clutch.

  11. Ime, a slipping clutch tends to show up most at full throttle in a high gear.
    Could it be a coil?
That would cause the engine management light to come on and would cut power.
