Will Panigale Clutch Master Cyl Fit 848?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by redsail, Sep 22, 2015.

  1. Need to replace my clutch master cylinder on my 848 Corse SE, will the 1199/1299/899 clutch MC work?

Any other bikes that have the same part?

  2. No, well the aftermarket slaves won't that's for sure. Looks to be a totally different body design where as the 848 one looks comparable with the earlier 748 etc.

I had an Oberon, it really was worth the money!

  3. Yes, MC will fit and work

  4. Great. Also seen some Multi and Monster ones for sale and just the cylinder pump itself, no lever or microswitch. I assume I could swap those bits off mine?

  5. Are you thinking of the slave cylinder phil?

  6. Crap, sorry mate, was thinking two things at once!!

  7. No worries :)

Now thinking about just getting some nice accossato pumps with folding levers...damn you internet!

  8. Be careful - the bore size of the MC is stamped on the body, under the microswitch.
Not all models use the same bore, even though they look the same.
Make sure you're replacing like-with-like otherwise you may get clutch issues.

  9. Good advice thanks antonye. Does it have to be exactly the same or is a larger bore size OK, but smaller one not for example?

  10. Short answer:

    Use the same or bigger.
Bigger will reduce the force required to pull the clutch lever.

    Long answer:

For the default bore size, it will push a certain amount of fluid (and therefore push the clutch push rod a certain distance) for a certain force at the lever.

If you increase the bore at the m/c, it will push more fluid for the same action at the lever. This should push the clutch push rod further, but obviously it can't (because the clutch throw is a fixed variable) so instead it reduces the force required at the lever to push the clutch push rod the same distance due to the hydraulic action.

Conversely, if you reduce the bore it pushes less fluid so you will have to pull the lever further to move the clutch push rod the same amount. It doesn't increase the force required as you've not yet pushed enough fluid to move the clutch push rod fully, but you may get problems pushing the clutch push rod far enough to fully engage the clutch which could lead to gear-change problems especially when finding neutral, or the bike "creeping" on the clutch.

  11. thanks! A bigger bore is a plus if it give a lighter feel.
