I've just seen on the news that in America they have finally got the handcuffs on Bill Cosby for alleged "Sex Crimes"! It seems to have been going on for years and years but kept coming back.It will be interesting to see what happens if it does finally get in front of a jury? Will it be just another sham like the OJ trial and others involving mega rich celebrities?
One thing's for sure - there'll be a lot of very highly paid lawyers making loads of money from the case...
On British TV there was a clip showing a group of women who were asked to put up their hands if they had been sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby and almost all raised their hands. Can he get a fair trial with all of the publicity ? I am sure it will be an angle his lawyers will look at. Regarding OJ, it was a battle of the lawyers and the guys in the sharp suits won, they just kept on dripping doubt into the proceedings and eventually it stuck.
OJ's defence reps proved that the main police detective on the case was a proven racist with a proven history of repeatedly fabricating evidence against black defendants, and they also showed that some of the prosecution evidence against OJ had been fabricated. This "dripping doubt" was not made up by "sharp suits", it was part of the case. The jury was not convinced beyond reasonable doubt of OJ's guilt. It remains to be seen whether the allegations against Bill Cosby are genuine or fabricated. I am not leaping to any conclusions at this stage. How about you?
Absolutely not. I have no doubt that due process will be followed; it will be up to the prosecution to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt, which is how it should be. But he is rich, and rich men do seem to get "better" justice than poor men. Those lawyers didn't get sharp suits by being bad at their jobs. Did the police look for any other suspects following OJ's acquittal ? There was definitely doubt about some of the evidence from what I can remember, the sharp suits found it and used it, which is their job after all.
Well as the saying goes - innocent until proven guilty? I certainly think that in the UK when celebrities have been accused of sexual crimes, rape, grooming etc a remarkable amount of people come out of the woodwork who had never made complaints or allegation before? I'm not calling the liars or fabricators but if I was a victim I would shout it from the rooftops!
Mind you if you look back to "JS" a hell of a lot of his victims did make formal complaints but as he was "percieved" to be a national treasure in some people's eyes and because of his seemingly endless charity work and fund raising how could he possibly be a Sex beast and total nonce? His very public guilt and crimes seem to have given a lot of Victims (hate to term them as such) the courage to come forward and front their seemingly previous bulletproof celebrities - but I think we have to be very careful
There is a well-known tendency for people (or at least the media) to jump suddenly from assuming innocence to assuming guilt. Either assumption might be wrong.
Spot on! But the Cosby accusations have been in and out of the news for at least 12 years in the States so I think his defence have a bloody strong case that can 12 jury members be found that have 100% clear minds with no preconceived guilt notions
Celebrities in USA tend to attract lots of spurious allegations of wrongdoing and claims for compensation especially if they have wealth, or even more especially if they are black. So pervasive are these claims that they come to be taken with a pinch of salt. Then occasionally some of them turn out to have a basis in reality. Confusing, isn't it?
OJ in the USA You ain't kidding but a lot of people think 100 not guilty verdicts are worth it to bring 1 wrong un to task? However a lot (prob most) of the not guilties will tell you their life is ruined and celebrities usually fall from public life broke and broken
But in this case Bill Cosby has admitted guilt in a private prosecution case brought against him, most of his accusers can't have their day in court due to the Statute Of Limitations having been reached (12 years?), but this latest case was filed 2 or 3 days before it expired, I would guess Bill Cosby's lawyers thought that all the cases had reached the S.O.L. when they let him plead guilty of drugging and sexually interfering with women.
Don't worry - there will be plenty of other accusers a lot more recent than this current case.People who do this kind of shit don't just suddenly stop doing it - it's what floats their boat and is a game to them.Sort of catch me if you can thing
A few years ago a story like this would have had Max Clifford appearing from under his rock to make as much out of it as possible... Then karma kicked him in the arse !
"Private prosecution"? I am not sure where you have got that from, but as far as I know Bill Cosby has never been prosecuted for anything until now. People have brought civil actions against him, and he has brought civil actions against other people, but not prosecutions. So when and where are you saying this "prosecution" took place?
