Wiring help for all in one tail light

  1. Trying to make my track spec evo as easy as possible to switch back to road spec as possible. So I bought one of these all in one taillights which other than the numberplate sorts out not having to put all the indicators back on

There is no instructions with it (of course ! ) and the wiring doesn't correspond in any way ! On the OEM wires there are black and white for both indicators and 3 going into the oem tail unit, so 7 in total.

For the new light, there are only 5 in total and these are as follows:

So any ideas how best to wire it in ?

  4. chrisw - Thanks very much for those pictures that should get me going.

Assume the grounds in the oem indicators become redundant then because it is a one piece unit that has a single ground. That takes me back to 5 wires then.

  5. Also found this pic which might be useful for someone, looks like he has run an all in one tail light and also put the indicators in the seat to show out through the vents. They look like the OEM ones ?

  6. Although not part of the MOT some testers may fail these "All in One" jobbos as the indicators are not within the required regulation for spacing, indicators should be a certain distance apart. Cannot remember the exact length (Google it), but you could also get pulled by a particularly zealous traffic officer. Putting indicators in the vents also has them too close together.

I wired mine up with the indicator leads through a superseal and brought into the space where the DDA sits. I can then choose to have the indicators flashing on the tail light or not by opening the plug.

I'm not trying to pour cold water on your mod just offering some friendly advice from experience.

One more thing I found but its unlikely to affect you. I have my lights wired through a switch so as I can turn them off if I want (its to do with the fact I have HIDs). Anyway if you do that check that when you hit the brake the tail light doesn't backfeed the sidelight circuit. In mine it did and I had to put a diode in series with the sidelight connection to stop it. Didn't have make the MOT tester laugh, but he still issued me an MOT on the condition that I took it straight home and fixed it (which I did).

  7. Thanks for the additional advice on this, the main reason I'm using this light is to be able to just chuck a number plate on and go for a road ride when everything else is in track spec. When MOT time comes I'll go back to standard plate, indicators and everything to make sure there are no probs.

Means I need to make the wiring connections a bit more plug and play so looking into that now !

  8. All installed working like a charm. Nice little solution for what I needed, made up a temporary number plate bracket that bolts up to the exhaust hangar and that's the rear end done
