748 With A 998,999,999s Engine

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by CarloL, Nov 5, 2018.

  1. Did anybody put 998, 999 or the 999s deep sump in a 748?

Wondering what's involved, ecu, airbox, injectors, loom, radiator,, oil cooler ?

  2. yes historically.

  3. What is involved, unless it's a 748r I need to remove airbox mount fir it to fit cutting out something, what's involved

Ecu or loom used with a remap or I need an engine specific ecu?

  4. remember they made a 998 ie a 748 with a 999 engine! So all std parts are available
you can do several things several different ways
So a 999 bare engine will bolt straight in deep sump or std sump.
ideally you want 998 throttle bodies 999 will work but the throttle cable link is different, you could use a 998 carbon airbox the only issue might be the age of your 748 and the type of mid frame brace it has the 998 was a kylami frame ive never tried to fit a 998 airbox on to an older 748 frame
you could run it on your 748 loom, chip and coils, you could run it on a 998 loom and ecu
you would need 998 headers for the exhaust and ideally the exhaust or modify what you have to the 998 headers

  5. Thanks!

Might be cheaper than rebuilding the 748s engine

  6. yep.....or go 1198

  7. 1198 engine second hand is $$$$

  8. it may be, but it will still be 30hp and 20lb ft down ;)

Just dont put 748 on the fairings. Sad thing to do, understate the cc ;) o_O:laughing:

  9. I will still keep the 748 farings :p

  10. tell everyone you used to be a racer...they will understand

  11. plenty of 999s deep sump motors about better cams and power ..cheaper price. Go for it!

10 hp from a higher fuel pressure regulator...nah i dont think so!!!

  13. Cooling side of things , is the Radiator in the 748s 2002 , same as the 998 but with only one fan?

Will I have to put in a dual fan with the 998 rad , the 748 ecu as far as I know , does not have provision for a second fan , I presume you piggy back off the 1 fan it has installed from Factory ?

Does the 748s frame have the provision for mounting an oil cooler?

I had a look via google , is there a project thread of a build anywhere? Good website?

  14. use your original radiator..as a guide the radiator for a 1198 is the same as a 848...if its for track id go with no fans!
on a 999 the oil cooler runs off of a bracket bottom of the engine...if it helps i have a 1198 engine with a 999 oil cooler and 998rs radiator

  15. I think this bike is running a 848/1098 ECU and dash unit. You can run a 916/996 oil cooler on a 748 but I would imagine he'd be running 848 radiators. I think the only thing 748 with the bike is frame and body work.

  16. as far as i see your biggest headache or unknown will be what and what era/ age frame you have and whether the cross member gets in the way of the base of the 998 air box but thats not the end of the world and easily overcome.

    get a
    999s deep sump motor
    998 airbox
998 throttle bodies ( as the throttle cable is a direct fit ) ( bit more of a faff with a 999 throttle bodies)
id consider running a 1098/1198 loom with ecu and stick coils and move the battery box to the nearside
    1098/1198 dash
    998 exhaust headers
    job job
