Long story short.... I'm in the preparation stages for a move to the US and I wonder if anyone can offer thoughts regarding life as a dealer sales manager/rep? Most of my career has been spent in pharmaceutical sales, national account management but I'm tempted to explore motorcycle sales as option that’s more aligned with a personal passion. Fortunately, I have the right to full permanent residency in the US so won’t have any issues regarding work visas or social security numbers (the US version of NI number). If any guys, or gals have worked in dealers around the UK or even the US, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Good and bad! Many thanks Jim
I looked into the same option last year, but within the UK, like you exploring the chance of working in an industry that interested me. Although I come from a procurement background, I first looked at marine sales, but then also at Motorcycle sales, the people I dealt with didn't think my background would hold me back. All I'll say is that looking at your career to date, you'll be disappointed with what you could earn selling bikes. Nasher.
Bike sales in the U.S are bottoming out quite a lot for a country whose main reliance has been the hardley moving. If you still wish bikes then try a dealership who has multiple outlets across all vehicle ranges or, at least go to a state that has almost all year round sunny weather. Selling a bike in the northern states where they have proper winters see's your income strictly limited unless say they are for example, a polaris dealer so does snow /off road vehicles too in the winter and bikes in the summer
