I need your opinions please. The motor for my 749/924 is pretty much finished. Next up is rebuild the rest of the bike. However I will be refreshing the paint on every aspect of the bike. My question for you my esteemed Ducati fans is. What colour? Frame and body?
Let your imagination run wild. Just because most Dukes are yellow or red (or black or white) there is no reason you have to stay with that. Why not resurrect a classic colour from the past like the metallic blue of the Pantah series? Or something else? The gunmetal 900 S2 looked cool with orange (perhaps the frame).
If you are painting everything in one go then you will get a complete colour match for either colour you choose. But It is generally acknowledged that Yellow has always been a harder colour to match when subsequent repairs are required due to the paint ageing over a period. Red can fade over time and become dull if you don't keep it regularly clean and polished. There is also a theory that Yellow attracts more insects in the summer, hence more bug splats!!!!
The bikes been that colour combo since I built it 7 years ago. I like the look but was thinking about a change.
I have given serious consideration to white and red colour combo. And I'll review it again as it would match my other trackday bike nicely.
I remember doin the British Grand Prix (F1) years ago at Silverstone and there was a guy about 15 ft in front of us on the Grass bank wearing a tracksuit and T shirt in what I can only describe as hi vis yellow! We didn't have to worry about flies or bugs on our picnic cos every bug at circuit was on him!
Do something different. That's what I like about the Paul Smart Ducatis. Nice style but different. But if you did a Paul Smart colour scheme it wouldn't be different...from the other Paul Smart Dukes. Trawl the Internet for inspiration.
I have always quite liked this scheme but not as a race replica so forget the stickers. Some unusual touches here.
