You And Your Bike History?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Advikaz, Jan 23, 2017.

  1. Not sure if theres a thread like this already, but always interested to hear and see what people have had in the past and currently own..

Anyway for me, my names Adam, I'm 26 this week so my bike history won't be illustrious like I'm sure many of you have. I live in Kent with my soon to be wife,

I had a 2011 CBR600RR, was a lovely little bike. Akra system on it and it sounded like an f1 car!

    600rr.jpg

This was then followed by my 899 which I've just sold to a forum member. Didn't want to sell it but the missus wouldn't allow two Panigale's in the garage :(

And I'm now the proud owner of a 1299.

    IMG_1271.JPG

Outside of this, my first ever bike as a kid was a Puch 50 mx bike that my dad built for me, I also had a kx80, a CR 125 & a 150cc pit bike after that.

Also got a couple of hobbies on the go at the moment with her old man in the shape of a 1969 Bonny (US import) & a 67' Norton 850 commando. Never realised how lucky we are with modern bikes until I rode these... doesn't stop, doesn't turn and the gears on the wrong side. Finding a gear is like moving a wooden spoon around a washing up bowl...

    What's your story???

  3. I like the idea of this thread.... think a few people will need threads to themselves though the amount of bikes and years riding they've had though!! I've only been riding 10 years and gone through about 10 bikes myself!.... looking forward to seeing some great pics though :upyeah:...

  5. I don't think cameras were invented when I first had a bike, first bike was a home built thing, 250 villiers 2 stroke twin from a crashed James fitted into an Indian Brave frame with a nice full fairing painted in Honda racing colours of the time. Had quite a few since, currently got my 748 (853) and a 1983 Honda XL 250R

  9. can some summon Major-General Erich von Klinkerhoffen to merge the threads?

  10. Most of my history:-
    250 BSA
    250 Royal Enfield Continental GT
New 1972 650 Triumph Bonneville, [which was stolen after 3 months]
    500 Triumph
    67' Bonneville
    New Kawasaki Z650
    New Kawasaki Z1R
Honda CB200....yeh I know!! [But it only cost me 25 quid and I used it for 19 years before I was knocked off it]
    New Yamaha SRX600
    Honda CBX750
    Kawasaki GPz900R
    Yamaha FJ1200 [99000 mls]
    Ducati M600
    New Ducati 916
New Yamaha FZS1000 [149000 miles and rising]
    Ducati Superlight
    Yamaha R1 5jj
New Yamaha R1 5pw [50000 miles before being wiped out by SMIDSY]
    Ducati 900ie Supersport
    Pre-unit Morgo 750 Triton
    99'Yamaha TRX850
Yamaha TDM900A [good fuel economy this, I did 12500 miles in 6 months, but Im on the 3rd pair of tyres and 2nd pair of front discs which cancels out any fuel savings]
    97'Yamaha TRX850
Not all in the right order.

I have never commuted and I only ride for leisure. These are, or were some of my favourites,I'll not bother with the rest. Since the Bonny was nicked Ive always had had a few in 'reserve' and keep 4 ready for use in the summer but only 1 in the winter, and no, its not a Ducati!

  11. My apologies, seemed right at the time.
From the age of 9, I was routinely dropped off at school by my mother on her Honda 90 step through but started riding myself in 1967. I rode a lot of appallingly bad British and 1 or 2 early Japanese bikes of the era that people now seem to think are classics and believe that they are worth unreasonable amounts of money despite being awful to ride :Bag:. Finally moving on from my last British bike, 1962 Norton 650ss, in the mid 90s, I bought a Suzuki GSX 750 which was swiftly followed by a TL1000R. Bought my first Ducati, a 996 BP, in 1999 which was superceded by an ST4s in 2002. A 748sp joined the ST in 2005 with both bikes being traded in 2012 for a shiny new 1200 Multistrada s. Bought a 748R off eBay in 2014 after a night on the beer and a 1098R last year after trying to buy one for 18 months. Some of the 748R is in the 853 track bike which was finally completed in January last year having evolved over 18 months but hopefully that will be put right this year. At 63 I still enjoy my riding throughout the year both on road and on track although my ability to sit in the saddle all day has deteriotated as my joints have stiffened. Yes, getting old sucks but they will have to surgically separate me from my bike when the time comes :D. Andy

  12. D7 Bantam
T21 Triumph with 500 top end
    KH250
    GT250 open class race bike
TZ350 race bike (still got it)
Then in 2002, 15 years after I gave up racing and riding in general the bug bit again and I started a new era on 2 wheels.
    748E
    1098 Tricolore
    998 Bostrom
    916 Bip
    S4RS Monster
    Gs1000E
T160 Trident (my teenage dream bike)
    GL1000 Goldwing
    NS400 triple
Only ever intended to have one bike for the road but things happen and opportunities arise so I've ended up with my own little collection.

  13. Crikey, either going to sound very old or like I have had too many bikes...or both!

Honda SS50 (with a 72cc top end lol)
    Kawasaki KH125
Kawasaki Z550 unitrack with a full Yoshi system. Probably sounded better than it went.
Suzuki GSX1100f. The one with the electric screen that didnt like going around corners.
    Honda VFR750.
    Yamaha FZR600 genesis
Yamaha FZR1000 genesis. Fast as fcuk. Ran massively wide on corners.
Yamaha FZR600rr. 1st taste of trackday on that bike. Learned that Michelin Macadams inspired the non stick pan.
Honda VFR400 THE bike to learn how to ride properly
Suzuki GSXR750 srad Last of the srads before the k1 gsxrs. Nice handling bike
Yamaha R6 ltd edition (yellow n black job) tank slapping yam
Yamaha R1 06 model year. 102mph in 1st (allegedly and rather bloody quick in the other gears)
Yanaha FZ1s. 19 k on that one. Good bikes with a small amount of tweaking.
Kawasaki ZXR636r. Quick and superb handling bike
Suzuki GSXR1000 k8. Flat handle bar conversion. Bril apart from wind blast!
Ducati MTS 1200 twinspark. Good bike with some little niggles including a high speed weave that never got resolved.
BMW S1000r sport. fooking rapid thing. Handling on smooth roads sublime. Vibey. Thirsty. No good for 2 up.
BMW R1200gs lc. suprisingly capable, quickish, very good handling even luggaged up, two up (which is probably its strong point) also a bit boring, look like I should have pipe n slippers in the panniers and you dont open the garage door and get an erection...
KTM 1290 gt on order, injecting a bit orange excitement in to biking in 2017 ;)
