  1. Saw this today.

Things have certainly moved on from a brick through the window, and a scaffold bar. :(

    Thieving B**tards

Probably similar technology that allows them to scan your chip and pin card in your pocket as they walk by.

  2. But when they stop the engine after they have scarpered they will not be able to restart it.

  3. Not sure about that mate, if they have the tech to bridge the gap from key to car, pretty sure they will get it sorted at the other end

  4. Surely once the 'code' is in the 2nd box, they have it for good?

  5. It doesn't work like that, there is an algorithm that generates a random code each time the system is used.

  7. Well that Merc was never found again, so guess they are one step ahead of where we think they are at ??

  8. The police reckon this is the sort of thing that thieves did to my car about three years ago.

  9. That car will have been stolen to order, probably in a container on it's way to sunnier climes, where a new set of keys, and a new instrument cluster await with it's eager new owner.

  10. What car ET, and did you get it back ??

  11. wasn't a Reliant Robin then?

  12. You can buy scan-proof wallets that have a metallic lining. I've got one. Cost a tenner in Blacks. There must be something similar for car keys.

  13. Surely it also depends if you keep your keys close to the walls/doors/windows of your house too ?? I have a car with a similar set up, but you have to stand right near the car to get it to open, meaning a very limited range, so surely, if you store the keys away from the extremities of your house, should be ok right ??

  14. Tin foil, simples.

  15. Ford Mondeo. And all they did was ransack it, having got through the boot of the car. When I went to it in the morning it was all locked up again but had footprints all over the inside of the car.

  16. Thats why the scrote was at the door with his relay unit, it pretends to be the car, this excites the key which then sends it's code. Now, depending on the quality of his receiver (which will be much more powerful than the cars) it negates the distance of the key from the door of your house. The only solution to this is a Faraday cage!

  17. Coz he never shuts up. :)
