I personally think this forum in general is quite a bit more pointy than others that I'm on, it's why I post so much less recently. EG the other day, bloke asks a question RE Ohlins shock, I answer with something acknowledging that OEM Ohlins obv won't be like an aftermarket BUT that architecturally it's similar and people posted stuff like 'wake up and smell the coffee' etc.. just find it rather wearing
That was a very long confession I'll pay for yer (@El Toro ... send me his bill) .... ye tight git.... I wouldn't want to miss yer banta'

On a positive note we are keeping it out of the actual technical threads, well at least better than we used to?
Maybe a little, but there is still too much of people taking a comment VERY literally and starting an argument rather than asking for clarification. On 'another forum' there is a thread about Brexit, and a guy said that he didn't vote because 'what's the point'... I politely pointed out that while I respect his views and his choice I do feel people fought with their lives for our freedom to vote' and he was like 'fair play' and pages later everyone was just having decent debate. Honestly I can't imagine a thread like that getting past a page here without conflict..... I know the Mods can only do so much, it's not a dig at the mods.
Reading between the lines and based upon what Phill748 has posted ^^, there are bun fights going on in the tech forums and tech threads, too. Although this observation strictly speaking is Off-Topic because we are in a non-tech conflict resolution thread. I hate it when the techies invade our non-bike threads. : o D
It is rarely possible to re-calibrate how people behave. Most often, one must re-calibrate how one accepts, or reacts to, the behaviour of others.
To be fair I've answered loads of the Technical threads on Batteries and I mainly get abuse, fobbed off and told I'm wrong by people who demonstrate that they are not qualified to hold an expert opinion on the subject. In the end you think what's the point. Just let the guy, who was told by a guy at the pub, give the advice... I've never said anything against Lithium batteries, but at least a dozen people on here would swear I had.... my issue is with the tightly designed charging circuits on some Ducati. They should have allowed for a lot more heat... and they didn't.
Exactly.. I like a number of others have simply significantly reduced the amount I contribute to largely avoid it, and I don't even go near any political threads (partly because it's a Motorbike forum). I do find it really funny that some mods keep creating these threads for feedback and then when people do feedback other mods jump in to say something like the above... kinda sounds like 'your problem not ours' when clearly it isn't if you keep creating threads to ask for feedback on it.
Not sure I get exactly what you mean here. Are you referring specifically to the Ducati Forum or forums generally? I will say that I am not attributing blame nor telling anyone, "That's your problem". Just pointing out what 20+ years on internet forums has taught me. The tools are available on the forum to make your time here more pleasant.
Talking about this one specifically, it's become worse than others, and so I employ some of the tools you suggest.
FWIW I generally like the non biking threads, even the Brexit ones. Some posters keep saying the same thing over and over and can get tiresome but there are some who can be quite eloquent and have made me look at things from a new angle and consider factors I had never thought of. You just have to filter , block or ignore what or whoever you want and take what you can from the rest. I`m happy to read points of view I disagree with, doesnt make them wrong and me right or vice versa. The number of people joining seems to be greater than those leaving so I am not worried when the odd person publicly flounces off ,just makes me laugh that they have to announce it.
I tend to regard the posters who keep obsessively posting silly nonsense as children playing. Just let them play how they wish, but if it turns to nasty bullying then a grown-up has to intervene. A bit like parenting really.
Have to say it even though I've said it before Excellent 'pub' style forum, I enjoy it all and the help here is first class.
When people don't renew their subscription to a club, cease to attend a church, or stop voting for a political party they can do it unobtrusively - or they can noisily make a song and dance about it. Depends if you are trying to make a point, or just turning your attention elsewhere.
