I'd be very surprised. It had a 2 year warranty and to take it back after 3 years expecting warranty work would be purely good will on their behalf. A clutch is seen as a consumable item too. I had a fuel tank replaced out of warranty only because I bought the bike from the dealer, the service history was impeccable and it was a bit of a known issue. @HyperActivePaul if you want to try to go down the good will route, expect your service history to be scrutinised if your dealer fights your corner for you. Things do break and that is why your local dealer will have a big workshop and access to a full spare parts catalogue at their disposal. It's not all servicing and warranty work. On the plus side, it doesn't sound like the most expensive problem ever encountered, it's not like the bottom end is knocking.
I have no problem paying to have this fixed let me assure you. its just Simon said "pardon the pun" he will look after me as its low mileage and purchased from same group etc Its got full service history from Ducati with all stamps etc & as previously stated has only done 3500 miles, surely the clutch should last a hell of a lot longer than this. my friend had Hyper 939 he rode all year round for 3 years upto 9k miles with no clutch issue....
From some research and logic i think it looks like the lifter pin has snapped or the end of the push pin has snapped off. circled in pictures hopefully a simple fix going forward.
At least it's an easy fix. I hope that doesn't happen to my Scrambler or Supersport, both of which have the same clutch operating arrangement.
Im now thinking why did it snap? should the lifter pin have movement?? I dont want to put it all together just for it to snap again??
I have no idea. I haven't had occasion to meddle with one yet. I would imagine that it should rotate as it sits inside a bearing but I think there would be little axial movement as that would result in lost clutch lift but it should certainly move to compress the springs when it is activated by the lever.
So it must be normal then. Cool I'm going to order the pin, bearing & sealent. Get her all back together and hopefully jobs a gooden.
Not happy that it broke at 3500 miles and the bike has full history. Also noticed that the part number has changed.......wonder if they improved the part because of failures......
Quite possibly. It's quite a small diameter to take a fair load and the nature of it's engagement with the lever will also put some sideways load on it.
No apparent recall or notification either for my 2018 939. Any clue when the part number was changed?
That's exactly why i asked about the movement in the lever shaft, the up & down movement will cause force up & down maybe on the part that snapped. I haven't a clue why the part number has changed, i will be speaking to MotoRapido tomorrow so hopefully shed some light.
PM me your email and I'll pop you a link to my manual (on my Google drive). You'll be able to download if I get the settings right...
