So far everyone thats commented hasnt seen it....im in for a crank and shells to him but i got off lucky....engine is back with me now, going in saturday night. Might sound weird to a lot of people but once it had failed i was almost happy (in a weird way) to get the motor out... Quite excited to get in there saturday night....
It will be (and it was!)...just got the engine back in this morning. And, i have to say its probably the easiest engine ive ever refitted....so im told by one of the lads on the forum i think from bench to riding about an hour and 40 mins... prepped engine with no fuel start to get oil round the shells. Prime the fuel pump and it started straight away.
Out of interest as i'm still interested in buying one how much ball park does he charge for a rebuild? I'd like to factor in the cost should a newly purchased bikes engine do the dirty.
Hi there. Wow - you're still interested!! Way to commit! I think he charges 400 labour for a full rebuild + parts and carriage. I think he's got a bike on ebay at the moment but he's away on holiday for another 3 weeks... Ironically tonight I just sourced a crank that I owe him once I've got that paid off there's another guy holding a crank for me which will be my spare. Its all back together now...been out on a few times and it's been fine....I've not heard the fan come on yet but I don't know if it's getting hot enough but it feels hot...apparently the fan comes on a 102.5c. Not got the neutral light working yet but that's a work in progress... Despite everything that it's put me through...its an amazing bike....it draws more attention than anything else I've ever ridden....!
Thanks. Just wanted a little more info than I can glean off the internet, so i'm going in eyes wide open. I've eyes on 4 ATM in various price brackets trying to work out whether to spend more on a sorted version or buy a cheaper unknown, Yes still looking, my Son may have it though as he's outgrown his 125 and with a restrictor fitted it can be ridden on an A2 licence, but if not i'll have it. Been into Supermoto bikes for a long time now, possibly my first was just a KE 50 that got restyled a little. I then got hold of a SWM 250 enduro and plonked SM wheels on it, that was little nuts though and only used for hooning locally.
Same for me - always liked supermotos....probably my most favorite of style...had more supermoto stylee bikes than any other... MTX125, Hyper 1100s, KTM660, evo, KTM525, evo sp (currently) and i would say its the best of everything despite the problems but if you get one thats had all the mods done theyre a reasonably safe bet (i know thats coming from me with a snapped crank) but im more than sure i was a one off... I would highly recommend Scotts bike but i think its off ebay so it might have been sold now....not sure but hes on holiday at the moment.....ill see if hes got anything else going at the moment ( i do know hes currently building an engine at the moment also) but, mine catastrophically failed and he helped me out no end.... Yeah I’d seen that one but it looks like a track bike to me which is a little off putting. No headlights no brake lights, I know we’re supposed to be rebels but just makes me wonder if it’s had the loom hacked to bits. I don’t ride at night it just that screams ‘pull me over’ mr plod. The plastics don’t look great either, maybe having a chat with him might yield answers I’m happy with. Theres a Japanese import that’s close to me on eBay at £3800, hence the ‘how much to open up the engine and fix that which the factory screwed up.
No, I don’t actively look as such I’ve no alerts set up on eBay, a lot I see on market place as they come up when I’m looking for parts for my Sons Aprilia MX. Missed a low priced one as it sold a couple of weeks ago. The one I missed a few years ago was only up for 1700 but the lad literally didn’t know anything about it and hadn’t the logbook. All he could tell me was he thought it had come from the USA, looked like someone had attempted to turn it into a flat tracker, it needed some serious TLC.
Wow....ok...thats probably a bit too risky for me....hes just sent me the ebay description and a load of pics...copy and paste incoming.... Looking to sell my sxv 550. This bike has just undergone a light restoration as you can see by the photos. Loads of powdercoating and new stainless steel fasteners. Plastics painted satin black. I think it looks awesome. Condition is superb. Bike wants for nothing. Starts every time hot or cold and runs perfect. Here’s the best bit. It’s just had an engine refresh. Cylinder and casings lapped in and deck heights set. Liners machined to ensure no more head gasket issues. Everything measured and to spec. Rebuilt with new gaskets, oil seals and o rings where needed including the all important oil pump and stator cover. Engine is absolutely like new inside and out as has only done 120 hours. Frame and engine numbers match the v5 and also match info stored in ecu so this is a very original bike. . See photo. Conrods and valve rockers are polished and mild porting has been done on the cylinder heads. You won’t get better. Just had a full years mot put on it. Bike was never road registered from new. I’ve just done this and it’s in my name and I’m the first and only owner on the V5 logbook. Bike was never a race bike. It had only done short hills climbs from new. It’s an official 2007 uk bike . Currently does not have clocks or side stand. That’s it. To summarise, this bike is in great condition, needing nothing. Starts on the button every time. I have done 50 miles or so on it to run the engine in and check everything is ok. Has current mot. No time wasters please.
