  1. Hello Guys
There is a ''Scary'' noise on my 2010 Multistrada 1200, and i hope its not going to make me poor if i take it for service

Could, the most experience than me, check the bellow video i took and let me know what you think it is ?

for some reason the video is too big to post it here so i have a link bellow to check it on youtube

  2. What is the mileage and when was the last time the valve shims were checked ? Andy

  3. Hello Andy, i have 48.880 miles on the multi, i had a desmo service 2 months ago in a Independent ducati service, but i have my doubts that he did a good job, and even checking the valves
i was feeling that something was wrong as i had a very ''elastic'' response when i quick open the throttle after couple of weeks from the service i had
im really pist off with this guy as he had also a bit of an attitude when i called him back to tell him whats going on

  4. Sounds a bit tappety. Or belty.
+1 for Andy - when did it last have a Desmond and belts?

  5. Hello Ricky

i had the desmo (belts) 2 months ago, so i dont think i should hear this noise
i dont know if you checked the video on youtube, you can hear a tink sound

  6. Sorry, you answered while I was typing.

I always ask for the clearances when I get valves checked.
Yes, they could make them up but most decent places scribble them down when they do them.

  7. im just a bit scared in case there is a big problem with the bike, i have the multi for 10 years and never had an engine problem, only an issue with the ignition

  8. Your experience would not be the first time a workshop has done a poor job. For peace of mind, I would get just the horizontal cylinder valve clearances checked by a difference mechanic as they are the easier of the 2 to do and shouldn’t cost an arm or a leg. If the clearances are out of tolerance (as suspected) that would confirm the source of the noise. You then have a few choices, get the job done by the shop you went to properly at no extra cost to you (Trading Standards are your friend here) get a refund or just write it off as a lost cause and get the what was done checked and the valves adjusted, which is not cheap. Good luck. Andy

  9. early models like yours were known to have a problem with the main crank bearing, I had a 2010 with 22k miles on and could here a noise that i knew wasn't right .... not saying yours is the same problem as you've just had a desmo service so hopefully just a belt out by 1 tooth but it is a common problem

  10. i believe he didn't even check the valves but i cant do much now, what its done its done so i will just check with him when im calmer since im a bit pist off with him
do you have any recommendations for a mechanic ? in north london mainly ?

  11. He supposed that he changed the belts 2 months ago

  12. As a first move, I would check the belt tensions and condition of the tensioner and idler bearings.

  14. It could be a shredded belt?

  15. You can get the horizontal belt cover and part of the vertical belt cover off with just an allen key and without removing anything else off the bike. Worth having a look to see if it's something obvious, you'd be able to see if it was a shredded belt.

  16. P.S. I would not be tempted to run the engine again until you have had it fixed.

  17. I agree, I would get the belt covers off and have a look, it does sound like something is catching behind there for some reason..?

  18. ….because the belt may be starting to shred…and catching on the cover.
Also you can likely see the bottom of the vertical belt with the horizontal cover off.

  19. I have used this chap for a few bits and pieces, you can eat your dinner off the floor in the workshop.
