Hi All, I've just bought a 2020 V4, (which replaces my 10yr old 1299) and notice there is a built in trickle charge connection under the saddle. Can anyone advise if I am right in thinking that I must buy a Ducati charger please? The connector is different to those I have had before e.g. on my Oxford Oximiser. Needless to say, a Ducati charger is more expensive than others and annoyingly, I just bought a new Oximiser. Many thanks Andy
I don’t recognise that connector as a charging pirt unless it’s the DDA socket. If it were me, I’d use the battery pigtail in your new Optimiser, connected directly to the battery terminals. Andy
That was my original plan as I had done the same with my 1299. I'll either do that or see if an adaptor exists like Fraser suggested. Thanks both for your replies
I’d go straight to the battery. That socket is the diagnostic socket. It can be used, and you get an adapter to do so, but the circuit isn’t fused to highly. I see bikes with blown fuses due to charging, quite regularly.
Thanks Nelly, maybe I read the handbook wrong. I’ll check it again, maybe just connect the leads directly to the battery as you aay
The handbook will tell you that you can connect under the seat……. Don’t always believe everything you read though Go for a direct connection to battery and you’ll be fine. If the fuse goes on the diagnostic wiring, first thing you’ll know is that your bike won’t start because the battery hasn’t been on charge
