(small) Bike Things You've Done Today

  1. From memory it was also standard fitment on the Cosworth RS500, but could be wrong.

  2. You sure your cut out for this off road nonesense. ;)

I’m knocking on a bit now, and this year have just given up off road riding which I have done for nearly 60 years. I just stick to the tarmac now and have sold my enduro bike and gear.
In my later years off road nearly all my spills were due to the extreme height of the modern day bikes! Just saying.

  3. Don’t think it had water injection, but it did have an additional row of injectors, for homologation purposes. again from memory.

  4. The RAF technicians at the RAF base my Father served at installed some heath Robinson device to allow water into their intake, early 50's for a time reference.

  5. Lol. I don’t know if that’s a reply to
@ducv2’s observation about my misadventures or you’re addressing me directly*, but I had another pretty nasty get off a few days ago when I got cross-rutted and subluxated my shoulder once again, although I didn’t report it at the time for fear of all the piss taking that would ensue. It was pretty sore but a couple of painkillers and a bit of impromptu field physiotherapy administered by another rider pulling my arm did the trick. I agree re: the height of modern enduro bikes - I’m 5’9”, ie: bang on average, so I prefer something which can be flat footed as it’s fine when you’re moving, but needing to take a cheeky dab or a paddle at low speed can easily turn into a fall. I have a Beta 300 X Trainer, which is a nice manageable height and it makes for a much less stressful riding experience

    * Use “Reply” :upyeah:;)

  9. Re: risk of injury - true, but injuries can happen at any time and in any place and more people are killed every year by cows than by motorcycles.* For example, I was playing cricket last summer when one of my teammates who is in his late 30s, is very fit, plays rugby at a decent level (he’s the brother of an England international) and, luckily or perhaps ironically, is actually a physiotherapist, broke his leg and ankle in half a dozen places when he bent down to pick up the ball. Link to post about that and (trigger warning) gruesome x-ray pic: So what have you done today..?

I also broke my left tibia in November 2018 when I toppled sideways off my new to me Streetfighter at walking pace due to exhaustion and the early stages of hypothermia

    * Probably. In common with 87% of statistics, I just made it up.

  10. Were the Cows being ridden too aggressively perhaps or at least out of the riders capability?

  12. I dislocated my AC joint (where collar bone meets shoulder) falling of my Triumph Daytona while sat on it on my drive!
Embarrassing? Yes, Painful? Yes. Have the piss taken out of me? Absolutely and it’s deserved.

  14. Started to strip my Transalp down to replace the clutch plates.

It's proving a rather taxing job to remove the exhaust. Looks like they haven't been split since being built, I believe this one is Spanish built.

  18. Got lucky and sourced a new old stock screen for my CX650. These have been unavailable for over thirty years and then found a guy locally with a couple he had bought as stock clearance in the late 90s. Ridiculously rare thing so well pleased and he wanted sensible (ish) money for it as well.

  19. Fired how? Presumably loaded in a shotgun? I know that you’re a mechanical genius but why reinvent the wheel!

  20. A simple device, containing a spring loaded firing pin which is released by a trip wire. Often used to scare foxes away from chicken runs. Andy
