Latest newsletter from Prostate Cancer UK. “Life affected by prostate cancer isn't just about hospital appointments, test results or treatment plans. It's about the everyday questions, worries and moments in between. And we want men to feel like they're not facing it alone. That's why we've created The Prostate Health Hub. It's not a science journal; it's a digital space designed to support men during and after prostate cancer. Whether they've had prostate cancer, have had it in the past, or are a loved one affected by it, our new Hub is built for them in mind.”
I went yesterday and had a positive experience which is good because I’ve not had good experiences on the incredibly rare cases I’ve been to a doctor (literally once every 5 or more years). Without going into loads of detail I have an overactive bladder so there is crossover with symptoms of enlarged prostate. Luckily the doc took it seriously and I have a full blood test in a few weeks and follow up, also he did urine tests and checked for blood etc. He did say “42 is too young for prostate issues” but I struggle a bit with that because my mate was 46 when diagnosed and I can’t believe it’s THAT specific!!
Agreed, best to play it safe and get your blood tested for PSA level. The earlier they catch it the better.
Prostate Cancer UK latest newsletter has an article and webinar about the treatment options that are available.
Lad in our pub got diagnosed at Christmas (first person to welcome me to the community and pub and know my name 6 odd years ago). Had a new baby with his mrs last may. got taken into palliative care on Monday and died the day after. Get your balls and bum holes checked lads.
From what you’ve said he wasn’t that old. That’s awful. Please give his family our sincere condolences.
That’s very kind thank you. He/Scott was in his mid 40’s so not a young parent but makes no difference in the grand scheme of things. I remember him coming in the pub a few days after Xmas and telling everyone his diagnosis and that he was being treated so it’ll all be okay. That was less than 10 weeks ago. Absolutely scared the living daylights out of me I can safely say.
Got my blood test results back and all normal so that’s good, haven’t had a physical exam but I doubt I’ll need it this year given the blood test results
Plus one one that. I probably wouldn’t have even thought about getting a test until I read this post.I got my results back and they were all normal.
Likewise... That was hellaciously aggressive and mid 40's is still way too young. The only poor consolation being at least it was fast and didn't end in years of suffering like some get.
This is a document that I have just downloaded from the PCUK website. It answers many questions that will be asked by those who have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Many thanks for bringing this to our attention. On reading the article I noted the following:- The trial of 58 men were all suffering from advanced prostate cancer, some who’s cancer had already metastasised. Hopefully most of the guys on this forum will now have heeded the advice of us wearers of the Tee shirt and got themselves diagnosed early. This treatment is classed as immunotherapy. If they can somehow manipulate our own bodies to eliminate the cancerous cells this is good news and I would hope that the resultant side effects would be substantially less than some of the current treatments being used. However it was noted that it is important that studies are carried out with patients of different ethnicities, as there were disparities in prostate cancer outcomes. By now we should all be aware that unfortunately the black guys amongst us are twice as vulnerable as the rest of us. it was noted that where the cancer had already metastasised to one patient’s liver the cancerous lesions were fully resolved by this new drug. So we may not be the only cancer sufferers to benefit from it. And finally for those who interpret this news as no longer needing to be concerned about this cancer as there is a wonder drug coming that will sort us all out I leave you with the sobering thought that it kills over 12,000 guys in the UK every year.
Just finished my 'superfast' radiotherapy (5 doses over 5 days) for a prostate cancer diagnosis. PM me if anyone needs info or just to ask questions
