So what have you done today..?

  1. Questioned my sanity!!

I have owned my BMW 850 V12 5.0L for 28 years but have never been on what I would call "a proper continental trip". I decided to rectify this and a few months ago I booked a trip to the Black Forest in Germany, leaving on 18th April. With a vehicle that only does 20mpg at best I knew I was being extravagant but just desperately wanted to get the desire out of my system. I was anticipating 1400 miles round trip at circa £1.50/Litre but thanks to our American friend this is now likely to be nearer £2.00/litre. OK originally I was anticipating that 1400 miles would be circa 320 litres, say £480 but now it will likely be £640. Should I just suck it up, go and enjoy it or should I possibly consider postponing? Just after a few other thoughts from a very sensible bunch of nice guys and gals.

  3. slightly dependent on your financial situation, but I would say definitely do it – you are 70 years old? (me too) definitely do it.

  4. If just cost I'd say go, but I think judging by the situation arond here at the moment I'd be more worried about not being able to find fuel.

  5. Go for it, make those memories don’t wait.
The war isn’t over yet despite what the orange idiot keeps regurgitating

  6. 70 you say?
You have the type set of someone far younger.

  7. I thought I was quite worldly wise but didn't know that a type set could reveal anything much although I often pull people when they say "Should of" instead of Should have" and "Your" instead of "You're". What makes me sad is that they don't even realise they are portraying themselves as "uneducated" :joy::joy:

  8. And have you noticed how ‘as well’ is now becoming ‘aswell’ of late?
    It’s infuriating

  9. Why is this even a question? Do you reckon you’ll be lying on your deathbed thinking “I’m really glad I saved myself £160 by missing out on that road trip”?

  10. As is “a part”, which a significant number of people seem to think is interchangeable with “apart”

  11. In all seriousness, what has become so disappointing is that education or lack of, seems to make absolutely no difference
Thank you, thank you, thank you, that is just the sanity check I needed.

  12. A lot of other road users will be trying to save money though so the fuel crisis is likely to mean the roads will be quieter than usual, so as long as fuel is available it could be the ideal time to go.

  13. My mate gave me a lift to Canvey Island to collect my motorhome from the body shop and I drove it back home to Hertfordshire. The roads were dead both legs of the journey, especially considering it’s the last day before a bank holiday weekend

  14. They must all be in Northumberland then cos the roads up here are chocka today

  15. I have to say that these views are not what I have considered. Very good points that whilst some fuel guzzlers are being cautious I might just be able to enjoy the openness of the roads.

  16. I was thinking of heading up that way but I don’t think I’ll bother now. o_O

  17. Durham Pennines pretty quiet today (though bikes were out in force) but the Northumberland coast road always gets busy Easter week. I imagine Bamburgh will be bedlam this weekend.

  18. I wouldn't if I were you..............I'm not bothering going out on the bike because if it was rammed today, which isn't a holiday, then it'll be rammed all over the weekend

  19. It'll probably seem quiet compared to what you're used to. Haven't had my bike out yet because the bastards are still smothering the Pennine roads in salt.
Going to try and get out tomorrow. I like to kick my riding season off with a trip to Hartside. I'm lucky to live only about 40 minutes away. It'll be out of bounds by the weekend as Easter bank holiday is like mad Sunday up here. The idiots will be out in droves, and so will the police speed drones at Hartside. And probably the air ambulance as well unfortuntately.

  20. As above I'll be steering clear of the honey pot spots over the weekend (Devil's Bridge is going to be pure Hell) but if the weather's nice and I'm itching for a ride I might shoot up through Wooler to the Scottish borders. Generally seems to be quieter up there.
