Parked up at a bike meet tonight on grass. Lost my footing and the bike fell onto its right hand side. Fortunately the only damage was a bent front brake lever and a cracked carbon winglet. No other damage miraculously. Does anyone know if you can buy the winglets individually or only as a pair. Brake lever is pennies by comparison. Very peed off and slightly embarrassed. Second time in 45 years of riding, so i guess it's just one of those things.
Take a look at the spares catalogue for your bikes model and year. Identify the Ducati part numbers for the components you need . Then quote the part numbers while you are, searching or ordering. Ducatiomaha.com has useful catalogues online.
Some time ago I parked outside my local hein gericke by riding up the kerb ramp and parked on the pavement, no drama. Come time to leave I rode the bike off said pavement via the kerb not realising it was a 12-14 inch drop. Yep, my legs didn't extend the required 12-14 inches, and over it went, what a dickhead. The kicker tho, there was a huge traffic cone in the gutter (waist height) and the bike landed full square on it. Not a scratch of damage, nothing, apart from dented pride and ridicule quite rightly from the hein gericke staff who were laughing like drains as they helped me pick the bike up. What a knob.
I had the 996 in my arms after I rolled it out of the back of the van onto the folding, aluminium ramp. It was a strangely intimate moment as the rear wheel trajectory destabilised the ramp and I went over wrapping my arms instinctively round the tank and front fairing. Lying on the ground with a bike on top of you is not a good look. The local fire brigade happened to be having a tea break in the same car park at the time. It felt like an age before they recovered their composure and wandered over to assist the twat under the bike. I guess I added to their list of “hilarious” fireman anecdotes. The cost of the repairs pails before the loss of dignity
had a panigale V2 delivered a month ago, put it on the paddock stand and due too a loose bolt it rolled off, luckily just snapped the brake lever (£120), any one else dropped a bike without even putting mile on it
I havent, but years ago I sold a brand new ZX10 to a guy who lost it on the car park as he picked it up. I had warned him about power and tyres etc but he knew better. We also had a mechanic write off a brand new 996 as he was doing the PDI ride, he didnt come back to work afterwards
People leaving dealers on their brand new zero mile bike and doing an Apollo 10 are more common than you think. Know of a few PDI write offs too.
